A few weeks ago I changed the security settings on my wifi router (some d-link model) and plugged a wired tower machine into the router. The tower has flawless network and internet access. Wirelessly, I have my phone, tablet, XBox and laptop connected to the router. The phone, tablet and XBox all have flawless internet connectivity.
But for some reason, the laptop seems to intermittently (once or twice a day) switch from Local and Internet Access, to just Local Access Only. I can easily disconnect from the router and re-connect and it fixes the issue, and no other wireless devices have this issue.
Any ideas? 3/17/2013 1:24:15 PM |

it's so nice when someone has an issue, posts about it, figures it out themselves, and actually posts the solution in the thread instead of just wandering away forever
makes the thread actually useful for future people 3/17/2013 2:20:18 PM |

google results
seemed to be a Vista-exclusive problem based on my googly research
still waiting to see if its a permanent fix because it hasnt happened since i made the entry, but it was only a 1-2 times a day thing
a lot of the posts i saw about similar symptoms were computers that always had Local Access only issues, whereas mine was mostly Internet and Local Access with occasional Local Access only

now that you mention that it's Vista only related, I recall my machine having issues staying connected to the internet too once it went to sleep (it was a wired connection though)
I did a few registry changes and even swapped in a new NIC, but it was never fully fixed
i eventually just put win7 on it 3/18/2013 10:23:57 AM |
