I don't remember this one. I assume this was when she saw a psychic when she was a little girl? That was in the show too, right? What were the other prophecies that have already come true?

1) A younger, more beautiful queen will be her undoing
2) She will outlive her children
3) She will die by the hands of the younger brother

Now I remember. Obviously everyone assumed it would be Tyrion...but Sandor would be a nice twist.

^nah.

Bringing this thread back since there were some differences in the Riverrun thing.

Do we think the Blackfish is really dead? In the books he swims away under the portcullis. I really hope he's not because if so, I don't know why the show would waste all the time building him up.

everyone seems to think lady stoneheart is definitely not happening since beric is back, but doesn't it make more sense that the writers would rather show him breathing life into her instead of it just happening off camera?

i guess he could have, but, at least in the books, he had to give his life for hers

She's been dead way too long at this point to show Beric bringing her back. It's been about a year since they cut her throat

there's always a flashback or a bran vision, but they've gotten a bit far away in other areas, so i doubt they'll do it at this point.

I'm thinking GRRM is going to announce TWOW shortly after the finale this week. Wishful thinking, maybe, but it would make sense.

I really can't wait to read the book version of events for this season and beyond.

I wonder just how much the show is going to somehow influence his writing though. Sure, he says they're not related but come on, deep down, it will have to have some kind of impact.

The show has clearly shown that the "life for a life" rule isn't necessarily applicable (Jon and Melisandre). The fact that Beric is still around means nothing.

LSH, next week, immediately before credits. Too much time spent around the BWoB this season to not be setting up the reveal.

I just think it would confuse the audience since Brienne has a totally different arc in the show.

^^ that's not really the same. thoros (and melisandre) didn't have to sacrifice a life to bring back beric (and jon). beric had to sacrifice his life to bring back LRH.

apparently the lord of light only wants a priest/priestess to be able to bring back one person at a time?

no way in hell they decide to finally bring up LSH after this long

It might be too late to bring out LSH, but if they did, people would fucking whig the fuck out worse than they did when Red Wedding happened. It's the last big shock reveal the current books have left to play.

I for one hope they wedge her into the plot somehow, but doubt it happens.

LSH was a little "too much" for even the books. I can't imagine a way that the producers could pull this off without it looking stupid as fuck. They should just leave this one alone.

I disagree. LSH was awesome and creepy to read her chapters, and it would make TV watchers lose their shit. GRRM apparently was annoyed that they are gonna leave LSH out of show... Unless he was bluffing to keep the secret that she will indeed make an appearance.

Only time will tell my dawgs....

That look he gave her at the end would suggest so. She's basically become the mad Queen, sets up the prophecy of her being killed by her younger brother

This should be proof to any book fans left out there that he has no f'ing clue what to do with the primary novel, so he's just putting out random junk from the universe he created.

So I've watched through season 4 of GOT and am 2/3rds of the way through ADWD.

I have thought the TV show had done a relatively good job of translating the story while mostly remaining true... until season 4's finale when The Hound and Brianne fight (they never meet in the books) and Jojen's death (has not died yet in ADWD). Is season 5 when the TV show starts to drastically diverge from the books?

Obligatory book power rankings:
1. A Storm of Swords
2. Game of Thrones
3. A Dance with Dragons <=== could overtake GoT if the last 1/3rd of the book is awesome
4. A Clash of Kings
5. A Feast for Crows

Yeah man, GRRM and I were tag-teaming your mom the other day, and he said the new book should drop the same time as your balls.

So it's not looking like any time soon.

I haven't started ADWD so it's nice to see you rank it potentially as number 2. Storm is definitely a clear number 1 because it's non-stop action. I think I'm less keen on GoT and CoK just because I saw the series first and they did such a great job covering those books that I felt that I wasn't getting any new information. I actually really liked AFFC because that's where there started to be some deviation from the show and dove in deeper with the characters. I also love Arya, enjoyed the Bran chapters, and enjoyed the development of Jamie as well as seeing how the wars of kings basically affected the common folk in the Riverlands, etc. through the Brienne chapters.

I'll grind out ADWD before the new season but I was so burnt out after reading CoK, SoS, and AFFC in a row that I needed some shorter novels as a break (I read GoT after the first season or so of the show but almost didn't continue with the series because it was like the same exact material).

I read stuff like this as if somebody were reading me a story so it takes me longer - maybe a few weeks to a month per book. My friend's wife said she reads the entire books in one sitting but I think she's full of shit.

Has anyone read the Dunk and Egg stuff? There are three novellas and you can get them either in word form or in graphic novel form. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the word form of all three combined iirc

I just ordered that but was wondering if I should also read the graphic novels or read them in lieu of the novellas.

Back when I bought them, they were part of larger compilations, so I had to get the compilations. Haven't read them though. I'm boycotting anything else GRRM until we get WoW.

Define "one sitting".

I read all five in less than a month about five or six years back. It was the end of the summer and we were squeezing in a lot of beach days and I just couldn't put them down.

Some people just have the ability to absorb details when reading quickly. But I don't think I've ever sat down with a book and read constantly for 5-6 hours. My eyeballs would fall out of their sockets I think.

I picked up A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, The Hedge Knight (graphic), and The Ice Dragon.

The Ice Dragon was a really cool little story.

Hopefully I can find time this weekend or next week to read the others.

So y'all think Euron is bringing the horn? I feel like it's pretty late to introduce that in the show but who knows.

oh yeah, I forgot about that. Wasn't the horn said to control dragons? Would make for an interesting twist if Cersei got the power to control Dany's dragons

I think even in the books a lot of people doubt that there really is such a horn and that it has that kind of power.

I'm not sure Cercei will get the horn or have it for long if that's the case. I think that's when we'd see Jamie/Tyrion kill her (to fulfill the volnquar prophecy) and use the dragons for the right thing - presumably the defeat of the walkers.

We know that GRR Martin isn't a fan of particularly happy endings though. Wouldn't be surprised if the White Walkers ended up winning in the end. Would be a crazy twist. Although I guess that would be too risky for the TV show. Martin could always end the book series that way with the show having a completely different/happy ending.

fwiw he's said that the ending is "bittersweet".

I think the heroes/many of our favorite characters will die but for the greater good of humanity. The entire series is a big anti-war metaphor. The books do a better job of showing how war affects the small folk than the series though.

I'll put this here so as not to spoil anything for the show watchers.

Nymeria runs with a super pack of hundreds of wolves in the books. GRRM has said in interviews (paraphrasing) "you can't hang something like a super pack of wolves on the wall and not use it in the story."

But the show has really underplayed the dire wolves altogether and the Stark family ability to warg into them - the show runners have said that it's really difficult to make wolves look right in CGI because you can compare their movement to real creatures, unlike Dragons or giants.

I don't think that was Nymeria's curtain call.
