I'm assuming this was dems, but a california judge just ruled you can't use your phone GPS while driving.

There is some validity to the argument that minimum wage laws can be counterproductive, to an extent.

Neither of these undermines society in the long run like putting a strangehold on higher education like the Republicans have done.

But when you look at the growing wealth gap, that the Republicans are completely blind to, and democrats are too afraid to attack (because they think people are more conservative than they really are: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/03/04/one-study-explains-why-its-tough-to-pass-liberal-laws/), it's pulling teeth to change this. This would go a long way to boosting the economy, because it would mean more people have the ability to be self sufficient and learn new things to perhaps make new products/businesses.

Rep. Ellmers won partially on funds raised through attacking muslims. If US Reps from NC can win with that kind of message, it's hard to imagine it'll cause any trouble for state level Reps. The really scary part is that it's folks like Rep. Ellmers and Sen Berger considering challenging Senator Hagan next year for the US Senate seat to work along side Burr.

i'm a fan of the car confiscation bill with just the one change i would need that i noted before. currently the bill requires that you still pay for the towing, processing, and storage even if you are acquitted or charges are dropped. if you are innocent or the state can not make their case and drops the charges, you shouldn't have to pay this.

I also find it ironic that they want to tow your vehicle if you get charged with an insurance lapse, but not DWI. Who do you think is a greater threat to public safety? I think the guy that got arrested driving drunk 2 hours ago and just walked out of jail looking for his car.

if you can't afford insurance, you can't afford to drive. think of it as a required part of the equation, like gasoline. yeah it sucks, but if you get laid off and can't afford gasoline you can't afford to drive. now replace gasoline with insurance.

liability insurance is not very expensive, its a hardship if you are laid off or really poor but so is everything else about owning a motor vehicle (maintenance, gas, licensing, property taxes, etc...).

you are looking at insurance as an add-on, something to include with car ownership when you can afford it but you need to think of it as a necessity like gasoline. it sucks if you can't afford gasoline, but if you can't afford it you don't get to drive.

The republicans should not be introducing this bill. It is not small government, it is creating bloat and bureaucracy.

Also please note the GOP is trying to make it legal for insurance companies in NC to raise rates up to 7% a year without approval, at the same time they add draconian penalties for not having insurance.

Depending on where you live, driving is either the #1 or #2 household expense (housing is usually #1).

All the more reason to invest in better public transit (which this legislature of course hates, though McCrory at least used to be a big supporter) and better land use policies.
