Here for a conference through Sunday morning, staying at the Renaissance by the World Trade Center. Pretty busy during the day but flexible and can take time out do do whatever if I want. Mostly free evenings/nights. Anything I absolutely need to check out? Good drinking districts?

There are several really good restaurants right there near the Seaport. I definitely recommend going to Legal Test Kitchen or Legal Harborside (both are very close). For really close bars/bar food, The Whiskey Priest, Jerry Remy's Seaport, and Atlantic Beer Garden are all pretty decent.

Otherwise, you can catch the silver line into the financial district where there are several good spots for post-work drinks... I liked Zygomates, Elephant & Castle, The Corner Pub.

Harpoon Brewery is also not far from your hotel.

Boston is one of the best cities in the country to walk in. It's small enough that you can get pretty much everywhere in the downtown area by foot. They also have the Hubway bike share which I used last time I was there; fun way to get around.

If you're friends with Kelly on Facebook, shoot her a message. She lived there for 5 years and Anthony was born & raised.

Seen Legal Harborside, got a badass sandwich nearby at J Pace for lunch

Most excellent heads up

Actually every one of the locals I've run into has either just been minding his/her own business or has been loud, boisterous, and nice as hell...but I've only been here since about 9am

Limited experience has me inclined to agree. I'll have to check out the bike share.

^I think I am, will do...thanks!

Also, how are cabs? Haven't had need to catch one yet but I'm sure I will tonight. Most of the bigger cities I've been to, cabs are cheap as hell and eeeverywhere. As opposed to Raleigh where they're expensive as hell and you pretty much have to call one if you want one anywhere other than downtown.

Cabs are pretty good, but the subway is actually really simple if you feel like venturing beyond the Seaport area. Download the HopStop app if you have a smartphone. It is genius and will tell you which line to get on, where to get off, and where to walk from exiting the train.

Also, if you have time, definitely go to the North End. Go to Mike's Pastry or Modern Pastry for the best sweets. Have some great a pasta dinner at one of the many authentic Italian restaurants. Faneuil Hall is more touristy but there are a couple good bars there as well. Both of these destinations are along the Freedom Trail if you decide to do that.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like I'm going to have enough time to hit the Freedom Trail, but I probably will try to take the subway to the north end for lunch, thanks for the app suggestion.

So far everything has been stellar. Boston is a cool town.

If you're going to be up in North End, even if you can't do the whole trail the Paul Revere Mall (outdoor green area), the Old North Church, or the Paul Revere House are all cool to see if you're near any one of those.

And the Italian food there isn't bad there in North End. It felt more like a real little italy to me than what New York has. There was a great Italian market there with some amazing cheeses, and plenty of Italian eateries there too. I did eat in one restaurant and they put us near the door, and it was freezing because it had just been snowing so much. And the next day it was short sleeve weather. So their weather might be as wacky as it is in NC.

This may have been the italian market I was thinking of, but I'm not 100%:

I got married in Boston, so I have a special fondness for the city, and can't help but post a few photos.

You also have to walk through Boston Common, it's not exactly central park, but it's really pretty. And most of all you have to go up to the Prudential Tower Skywalk Observatory and see the city from that angle.
