just imagine how great it will be to live your entire life without anyone other than your spouse ever telling you they love you. and how nobody will be there to help you when your age starts to let you down. and if you're lucky, you'll get to die before your spouse so you don't have to find out what it means to be alone and unloved by anyone

but that's just me. i have friends who don't want kids. i just don't get it.

Family, friends, nephews, nieces, neighbors, etc. There can be plenty of people in your life who care about you whether or not you have kids. And there are obvious financial advantages to not having kids. I so I don't think not having kids means dying poor and alone. I say, to each their own, if you want kids, they'll probably make you happy, and if you don't, there are certainly more ways in this world to find fulfillment.

As someone who has a kid (and have always wanted kids), I would never want to not have a kid, but I can completely respect and understand the decision someone else makes in not having children. Not everyone has the same priorities, and the Libertarian in me says "to each his own"
