Sorry I can't post in old school yet. I've got a million of these poking up in my yard and I can't get them to die. I've tried Scott's weed and feed a couple months ago to no avail. Last week I put some ortho weed b gone on them and that hasn't seemed to have any effect either.

What is this and how do I kill it? (the weed pic is in my gallery if it doesn't post here, I'm somehow totally incompetent at linking pics from TWW pic gallery)

Round up would certainly kill it, if that's all you care about... of course, it kills everything, so you'll have a bare spot in your lawn.

Weed & feed is mainly for dandelions. If Weed b gon didn't work, try one with Triclopyr or MCPP (mecoprop).

It is probably around 6 inches or so now. The weekend before last I mowed on a Saturday and then the next Wednesday or Thursday I went out in the morning around 9am and sprayed them.

To no avail.

at this point in time, I'm not sure you're going to do much for them. you might fry the tips, but you aren't going to get good uptake.

might just have to grin and bear it and wait til the fall and hit it with a good dicamba cocktail

^^Ground was actually quite dewey at the time of application. I always thought you were supposed to put that stuff down early morning while they were drinking that in.

Thats an odd one...not sure what it is.

My best guess would actually be bamboo, as someone else mentioned, but im almost certain thats not bamboo. looks similar, though.

If it was bamboo, you could pull it and find a much bigger root about 4-5 inches deep. The root could be 20' long and would have those shoots all along that 20 ft. My house had bamboo in the back yard. Pulled about a 40' root out when i first bought it...tore my yard all to shit

Your best bet is probably get a plastic glove, soak a sponge in some round up, and wipe round up on it. Should kil it. If it comes back from that, might want to try to manually dig up some roots. Weed and feed and/or pre emergent wont affect that...youll have to just use round up or pull it (buy generic weed kill, glyphosate as active ingredient). It will kill whatever it touches, though

Try to pull one. If a big root comes up with it, it could be bamboo. Hell, bamboo roots look just like an actual bamboo shoot.

The roots aren't huge, and this stuff is riddled throughout my entire yard so taking roundup to it is not a preferred solution.

I just reseeded this stuff last fall, how the fuck would bamboo get in it?

Do I see what look like the remnants of straw that was put down after seeding?

if so, you're likely experiencing what happens after covering up a seeded yard with straw... the plant that the straw came from propagates.

are you sure it isn't a variety of bermuda grass? It looks like it in structure, sort of, it was bermuda it would be much longer and running parallel to the ground

I can't quite tell from the pic but it could be Japanese stiltgrass. Is your yard kinda in a somewhat wet floodplainy area. It's invasive and hard to kill, typically I've seen people "paint" the leaves and stalk with roundup (as others have mentioned itt).

Is what you are calling a weed actually centipede grass? (Which technically is a weed).

It's the kind of grass we have mostly down here, but I have bermuda. The reason I think it's centipede is because it looks just like that when it starts to creep in my yard from other yards. Only way I've found to get rid of it is pull it up, otherwise the centipede will eventually choke out the bermuda and take over.

That's not centipede.

Centipede grows out, not up. It also won't grow 25% as fast as fescue will...centipede grows very slowly

Update: I went to Chicago for the weekend and when I came home I've noticed that all the weeds I sprayed are yellow or brown and obviously dying. I guess it just took a little longer than expected for the weed b gone to kick in.

Poison ivy vines get "hairy" when they get big. Beware any hairy vines you see running up a tree even if it isn't sprouting leaves.

The leaves can still get you long after they've fallen (i.e. this fall when you rake leaves you can end up with poison ivy from the dried leaves on the ground if you're not careful.)

You'll need a special type of herbicide to kill it. Regular Round Up and similar products won't do it. You need a special type made for poison ivy. I'd suggest going around the yard and spraying the hell out of everything that remotely looks like poison ivy. Repeat every week or two until you stop seeing it; then start doing it a few times per year. The roots run underground and it can take several treatments to really make a long term dent in it.

I had it bad in my yard when I bought this house about 6 years ago. I only found four plants the first time I sprayed this year, but it would come back pretty quickly if I weren't diligent about spraying every month or so in the summer.
