I don't think this is the worst idea ever, but if that is going to be the layout, then this place will be out of business in about a month.
Obviously this is some low budget shit, but if they have the financing, I think a water park could actually do well in Raleigh with all the young families and hot as fuck summers. 4/24/2013 5:44:26 PM |

Okay here goes
1) The beach is like 2 hours away. This isn't fucking Kansas 2) The whole point of the beach is to hook up 50 times and spend the downtime outside where its relatively quiet. 3) This lot is the size of a mcdonalds 4) Why would anyone not just go to some apartment complex's pool if they wanted to swim / wade so bad. No sand and it will probably be less packed than this shit. 5) It is literally next to a train track 6) How are they going to keep hobos out? 7) If that picture is not what they are planning why in the hell would they not accompany all of these informationless sites with some actual info that might have a chance of getting someone excited.

While I agree that there doesn't seem to be much of a chance of this materializing, I don't see why it's a bad idea. For one, it's a shitty vacant lot currently. Even ignoring that, this wouldn't be that much different than a public space like a square or park or a beer garden, but with sand instead of grass or pavement. There's plenty of precedent for similar concepts in other cities around the world.
I don't see how they could make money from it though unless they are able to get a liquor license. 4/24/2013 6:39:44 PM |

If they have an approved site plan and approved building permit, I could probably build that for them by memorial day. But I'm assuming this is a prank or vaporware pr something. If its real and they don't have a site plan or building permit yet, that's not happening this summer. 4/24/2013 7:33:10 PM |

Wasn't there a guy on here getting people to take a survey about their interest in water attractions?
He was dead set on starting a water park of some kind in the area.
Anyway, I love the art. It is pure 80s, and that's fantastic--I hope they also plan to ban cell phones and our 21st century views on sexual harassment.
Too bad I have no need for a Raleigh Beach. 4/24/2013 8:14:14 PM |

It's not a real thing, the point of the raleigh beach signs are to get people to think about utilizing unused city space in creative and unique ways.
It is done by the same guy who did City Fabric and Walk Raleigh. 4/25/2013 11:21:48 AM |
