does anyone else agree that sitcoms and other similarly-staged shows suffer because of HDTV?

looking at the sets of "friends", "seinfeld", "the wonder years", etc, they seem much more believable than today's shows. being in HD makes them seem too polished and staged.

the only one of those that are "believable" in any way might be the wonder years.

i don't see how HD/non-HD affects this.

Seinfeld was shot on a soundstage

and

sounds like you have an issue with LCDTVs, not HD in general

Blu-Ray movies feel this way to me. They almost feel "too crisp" if that makes sense.

It's not HD, it's the TV itself.

I think people are getting confused with what constitutes High Definition vs refresh rate vs artificially interpolated images to meet a refresh rate. A TV being "HD" doesn't contribute to the "Soap Opera Effect", even on LCDs. However, certain frame-rates settings CAN do that. That has nothing to do with it being an HD TV though.

Edit: Looks like at least one person has already brought this up.

we adjust the settings so this type of stuff doesn't happen. it's you people who buy a TV at a big box store, plug it in and never adjust the settings that bitch and moan about weird effects and picture issues. take a few minutes to learn about the technology and the settings and adjust it correctly.
