Annoying, overachiever kid.
We had a DB faceoff (each team gets the same set of question and then papers are exchanged, and the teams have to identify the other's mistakes) and we faced off against his team. One of the questions was drawing a B+ tree, BlackJesus and I just put "Drew B+ wrong" for theirs. We got full credit for that and won, he was upset. 5/10/2013 9:15:55 AM

I thought you were a grad student. ASSUMED I should say. Did you return for another undergrad? DOESN'T ADD UP. 5/16/2013 12:50:30 AM

Nope, I started NCSU as an Aerospace Engineering in 2003, failed out for being a shitty student (after too many semesters of struggling to stay afloat and just killing my GPA), bounced around jobs for a bit, enlisted in the Air Force, turned my life around, did a lot of distance ed class while stationed overseas, got my associated degree, was readmitted as a full time student for the Spring 2012 semester and now I have one semester left.
I will be graduating Fall 2013 at the age of 28 with a Comp Sci degree.
It is what it is, I fucked up, paid the price for it by not graduating until a late age. On the plus side though, I'm debt free and have a fair amount of real world experience and leadership skills that I hope will put me ahead when it comes time to apply for jobs. Hell, it already managed to land me a summer internship with NASA. So fuck it

I might end up failing and going back for something like Comp Sci as well--except I won't go through all that disciplined right-of-passage bullshit, I'll likely work shitty jobs and sit around naked at my computer for a couple years. 5/16/2013 1:25:42 AM

^^ Eh, it's not for everyone. Even though I was ROTC my first go around and intended to serve when I graduating, I'm not going to lie, enlisting was a last minute hail mary for me to get my shit together. I didn't do it out of any grandiose idea of chest thumping oorah mentality. Yes I am glad I service and am proud of what I did, but I did join for a couple of selfish reasons as well as joining to 'do something important'
I am forever grateful for the military. The GI Bill is amazing. I learned a lot of useful things in my 4 years and would do it again in a heartbeat. Yes, there was some downsides (my hearing is gone at certain ranges, I fucked up my shoulder beyond hope of it ever being the same, late shifts, blah blah blah) but to me, worth it.
^ thanks
