Yea I have never seen a Kitchen Nightmares show. I have seen Gordon going apeshit on chefs in his TV show though. So I was very surprised to see how nice he was. Unlike say Simon Cowell, who seems to be a dick 24/7, you could tell Gordon is just much more of a passionate guy. And when he run into a restauranteur who thinks they are perfect and will not listen to him or anybody else, I'm honestly surprised he didn't just explode. My wife (who worked for a couple of years in a pretty nice Italian restaurant) had never seen the show either, but she was shocked by everything she saw. Even from my limited knowledge of spending time at the restaurant and helping out on occasion, I even knew how to run their POS system and also knew how much bigger a real kitchen is. That place was exceptionally small to offer that large a menu PLUS supposedly a bakery as well.

My wife and I used to watch his shows a lot. We stopped watching Kitchen Nightmares early on though because it's way too formulaic. Amy' Baking Company was probably the greatest episode I've seen, it definitely didn't follow the formula.
Most of his American shows make him look like a screaming English tyrant, when in reality he's supposedly pretty chill. His BBC shows are not as heavily edited and show a lot more of who he really is.

While reading Katy's IAmA, I read that the servers made $8 per hour, so the mere fact of having tips withheld isn't quite as bad as the episode made it sound; still there is the problem that the customers aren't notified about this policy.

^they explained that in the episode, but when I tip someone I am under the impression it goes to the servers..... if I paid for subpar food, the tip I give is only based on the server's performance... therefore I DON'T want it to go to the house, bc they can't even serve a decent meal.

And they went through 100 employees in a year? if this place is for real, then clearly this shit hole will fail soon enough

Exactly, the issue isn't with the servers making a tip or not. It's the fact that management is taking the tips that customers intended for the wait staff.
