what is the length of the sub box? from the picture it looks like it is way longer than it needs to be.

I gotta measure. It is. The center section is much slimmer; this box was actually for a truck, like a Chevy Avalanche, which is what it was originally in. It was actually narrowed down by the stereo shop that built it to fit my Volvo 850. I bought the car with the box in it from a good friend of mine.

Most of the actual box volume is in the end compartments; the center has very little. Hell, you could probably take the center out altogether and cap the holes.
