But in reality, I try and never do that if at all possible. Or when I do, I at least take the time to comb through it to get the crap out that doesn't apply. Unfortunately more and more, clients expect magic to happen. They see 10 hours for an activity on the schedule and say "It takes you 10 hours to do X??" In my head I'm thinking 'no it takes me 30, but I know you're about to push for 5 because you've never done X and don't understand how to do it properly.' The only thing that saves you is an incredibly detailed contract IDing exactly what you deliverables you are responsible for and how many hours you are taking credit for with them.

Passing the PE exam didn't make me feel any more qualified to be a "professional" engineer than before I took the exam. It was just learning what it takes to pass the standard test, not real world scenarios that put your seal to the test.

Oh well, anyone who moves into a new house in the Raleigh area has a pretty good chance that I've engineered their structure. Good thing I know what the fuck I'm doing

I think most PEs would agree with that, but it still helps to have some system in place for licensure when it comes to engineering.
