^^ I think in a lot of their concerts, Hexum doesn't play guitar...he just sings. So you're obviously right that only one guitarist is needed. But the other guitarist allows him to concentrate on his singing/dancing/being lazy.

Also, I like Nick Hexum's vocals, but I hate the dude from Maroon 5's (even though their voices are kinda similar.) Not sure why.

of course they could be more different. they sound more like each other than either one sounds like Bob Dylan, for example.
