Come on, it can't be that bad
Those pics could easily be LA, and people are raving about that place in the Raleigh Sucks thread. 6/3/2013 12:17:02 PM

Air pollution and traffic jam are two features for giant cities. But IMO, LA can't be compared with Beijing regarding size. From Wiki:
Beijing:
Area • Municipality 16,801.25 km2 (6,487.00 sq mi) Elevation 43.5 m (142.7 ft) Population (2012)[2] • Municipality 20,693,000 • Density 1,200/km2 (3,200/sq mi)
LA:
Area[3] • City 503 sq mi (1,302 km2) • Land 469 sq mi (1,214 km2) • Water 34 sq mi (88 km2) 6.7% Elevation 233 (city hall) ft (71 m) Population (2012) • City 3,857,799 • Rank (2nd U.S., 48th World) • Density 8,225/sq mi (3,176/km2)
Beijing is about 10 times bigger in area, and 5 times bigger in population.

I think you've got just the city of LA instead of the Metropolitan Statistical Area for LA, which would be a more accurate comparison:
Population Ranked 2nd in the U.S. – Total 12,828,837 (2010) – Density 2,645.0/sq. mi. 1,024.7/km2 Area 4,850.3 sq. mi. 12,519.6 km2
The Beijing area has about 4000 more km2, about 8 million more people, and about 200 more people per km2. 6/3/2013 12:35:30 PM

it's worth noting that Chinese people are slightly smaller than Americans
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height
so you can cram more of them into a given area. 6/3/2013 12:59:23 PM

I get what you are trying to do, but linking to a page about height in this case does not make sense. 6/3/2013 1:01:52 PM

I know..but there's much more data about height than about bodily girth
and it seems reasonable to me that taller people will be bigger all-around, on the whole
cue a bunch of people jumping in and saying RAWR RAWR THERE ARE TONS OF TALL SKINNY PEOPLE AND SHORT FAT PEOPLE RAWR RAWR 6/3/2013 1:10:17 PM

Native Beijing ppl are also tall. Remember Beijing is the capital city of China. And there's a HUGE gap between city and rural place.
Beijing is already the biggest city of Asia.
The roles of Beijing and LA carry are different. From a global point of view, US is the center and "capital" of the whole world. LA is an entertainment spot in this center. Beijing is the capital of China, the largest nation on continent of Asia. LA has NYC, Chicago, Washington, Boston, etc to share its burden, but Beijing has to take much more multiple roles

I like how "Beijing" has three consecutive dotted letters. it's kinda snazzy to see those three dots all in a row. I mean, I get excited just seeing the two dots in "skiing."
