My backup solution for the past several years has consisted of just an external USB hard drive. But that's not really sufficient as it's in the same room as the desktop, so if there is a disaster or a break-in, I'm still screwed. So I've been looking at going with one of the online backup providers, in particular looking at Carbonite and Mozy. I've also heard good things about Backblaze but have heard complaints that their security model is fundamentally flawed, though those concerns are more from a "vulnerable to government subpoena or rogue high-level employee" whereas I'm more concerned about a hacking-type breach.

Mozy seems like it might be the best bet, but it's also the most expensive and there doesn't seem to be an option for backing up more than 200 GB. I'm not there but I"m not that far away. Carbonite is theoretically unlimited but they throttle the hell out of your data after 200 GB so that it's almost not worth trying to back up any more than that. Backblaze is quite reasonable ($5/month for theoretically unlimited) and seems to be gaining some respect.

Anyone use one of these services? Experiences? Opinions on security? As far as I know none of the major players in this arena have ever had a breach, but I try to be careful with where I put personal data and important memories/photos.

[Edited on June 5, 2013 at 1:12 AM. Reason : most of these services are running on top of AWS - use glacier for archive, s3 for cloud store]

I use carbonite and have been happy with it, but 90% of my relevant stuff is also on Skydrive and sync'd between a few different devices.
