I notice that, like almost every site on Earth, TWW uses scripts from

googleapis.com
google-analytics.com

Ok well maybe not every site uses Google APIs. But anyway, I'm curious for purposes of general knowledge, what is the point of using these? The first one I take it is for functionality, and the second one is used to get a dashboard of site traffic stats... is that roughly correct? Given the age of TWW, I imagine it didn't always use these. So why did they start?

Going through my Google web history was interesting, because I noticed some funny numbers. Of course it records when you search (while logged into Google) and click on a thewolfweb.com link. But it also records visits... of a type. I don't allow scripts from google-analytics, so I have a couple of theories for how Google found out about a small fraction of my TWW page views:

- I was on a Google site and navigated directly to TWW, so that scripts from that site returned the URL I traveled to to Google
- I was on a computer without the analytics blocked, visited TWW, and the analytics script reported those

What do other people see in their web history? Does Google record all your TWW visits?

I don't know why Ken implemented it, but I use it to keep tabs on feature usage and to look for outlier trends that may indicate mischief (Denial of service attempts, brute force hacks, impersonations, proxy usage etc).

It's also a handy way to quickly determine the porn gold-mine photo galleries

More specifically, many sites use Google APIs so they don't have to host JQuery and similar Javascript frameworks locally, meaning fewer HTTP requests to their own servers; also Google Fonts are hosted on googleapis.com (obvi. TWW sticks with ol' reliable Verdana).
