Put me on the list. Supposed to go for a girl friend's birthday in July. I am not going. I told her I didn't want my heart to explode.

^^how long were you sitting in the door? when your TM asks you if you're ready to skydive, you better be fuckin ready to skydive.

(also, I'm surprised you remember any of that)

^not long at all...there were a bunch of teams jumping one after the other.

the door stayed open. we crouched down right next to the edge, went over a few last-second points, and just kinda leaned out

When I did it, I was so unnerved by the bucket of bolts that we flew up in and the geriatric at the controls that I was desperate to get out, and much more comfortable jumping out with a parachute than landing.

That's my issue... I'd love to do it, but I'm not gonna be the one that can take the jump. Tandem skydive, maybe, but I have the same issue with high ropes course type things as well

Did it once and loved it. If I were rich I'd do it a lot more. The one thing that I remember the most was the final "Oh Shit" moment when I stepped up to the door and could see the clouds below me.

When I jumped, it was ahead of an ice storm in January and the wings began icing up at 10,000ft. That was enough motivation to get me out of that plane. You don't actually jump though; you just sort of topple out.

afaik you have to jump tandem a few times and/or do some lengthy training to jump alone

the skydiving scene in Point Break would have sucked if Johnny Utah would have had to jump tandem.

get licensed and you can jump for apprx $24 almost anywhere in the world

depends what you mean by "alone". you can jump without anyone strapped to your back the first time you jump. after getting A-licensed, you can jump "solo" (without an instructor or coach in the air with you).

To the people who are all, "I'm glad I have no desire to do something like this"....

Its fucking awesome. I have a decent fear of heights and never wanted to skydive. But I was dragged to go do it with a group and it was ridiculous. The free fall is one of the most amazing 60 seconds of my life.

That's all.

I would love to do it, but I have a very sensitive eardrum. It has actually been perforated just by the change in cabin pressure in a commercial boeing. I would be afraid that the quick drop in altitude would just tear me up.

I can't even dive like, 5 ft deep before feeling too much pressure.

^^my entire life I have been terrified of heights. in fact, most of my recurring nightmares involve me climbing up many flights of stairs in some huge hotel atrium without railings, or crossing an open-air bridge with no guardrail, or something similar. I think this fear has been *somewhat* assuaged after my years in the sport, poking my head out of an airplane at 12k' trying to find our airport, or falling off the strut or out the door, but I don't think it will ever leave me. that said, I've always held firm to the idea that the fear your body experiences before skydiving is different than the fear I feel standing on the edge of a 3-story rooftop. and by different, I mean much, much more awesome

also, the SECOND that your body leaves the plane it also leaves the fear. mark it down

^^ Agree. Above the height of thousands of feet, anything can happen.

what is .5k of floors? 500 of floors?

is this like when 500 on the floor for weight with man, 30 on the floor with 20 girl weight?

With my luck a big ass bird would fly into and shred my primary chute and moths would fly out when I opened the backup.

Yes. The real problem is not the fear of height, but the unsafe issue at the level of this height.

I was the first on the plane, so I was the last one out. Watching everyone jump out and scooting closer and closer to the door was kind of My tandem instructor kept making jokes likes "Hey man, what's the difference between skydivers and golfers...golfers go 'Whack!....oh Shit!', skydivers go 'Oh Shit...Whack!'

We get to the door, he grabs the frame and goes "Dude, we're gonna go on the count of three...THREE" and just throws us out of the plane

How big are you? A lot of it depends on the tandem master, but there are regs for the gear
