I'm visiting my boyfriend on Landmark Drive, about a block or two south of the shooting. It's been crazy here today. I was pretty scared when there was no confirmation that the gunman had been captured for about an hour after the shooting.

I go to that Walmart or the BabiesRUs in the same shopping center maybe once a month. My brother's girlfriend called me in a tizzy to make sure we were safe. I know that there were a lot of similar phone calls going on in town today. It's really disconcerting to have something like that happen somewhere you regularly go.

^^Technically, a mass murderer kills four or more so if you apply the same criteria.

I think that it's fortunate that only four people were shot. That parking lot is very busy and there are a lot of people who walk through that area on foot.

It's definitely not safe. After living in Raleigh ten years, I was shocked at how rapidly it's declined. I won't ever go there at night and the last time I was in there I watched a guy blatantly shoplift.

I know the family of one of the victims of the shooting.

Latest update was 20 minutes ago. They have not released the name of the suspect and do not plan on releasing the name today.

As to where are the citizens with guns? Taking cover. At least one of the interviewed witnesses retrieved his weapon, but that's all he did and all he could do without advancing on the suspect. I think that it is easier to be a hero in theory than it is to be one in reality. The real helpful thing done by a citizen was call the ToysRUs to warn them that the shooter was coming so that they could lock their doors so when he tried to enter the store, he couldn't.

I've never felt unsafe there. I've never been to the Greenville Walmart, but that's not from an avoidance out of fear, just an avoidance because I don't like Walmarts.

One time during and an LGBT march in downtown, after the event one of the people involved told me I shouldn't be walking around downtown alone after dark with that. At first I assumed he meant the rainbow flag. Turns out he meant wearing my State shirt.

They do have a cool Sunday on the park series in Greenville sometimes which is right by downtown:
