read the transcript. she never admitted any of that under oath. she said after a 1986 robbery when she was held at gunpoint by a black man that she called him a nigger to her husband afterwards. she never said she used that language recently, or spoke that way to the manager of the restaurant that is suing her.

irrespective of whether she did any of this stuff or not, i hate what has happened here. it makes me mad that a lawyer released the deposition as a form of extortion. the legal system shouldn't be used in that manner. i don't have a problem with things coming out in open court, but basically no one is mentioning that the lawyer for the plaintiff from the beginning has said that he was going to make a big deal out of everything and release everything to the public.

i'm disappointed that the judge didn't grant deen's initial motions to keep everything under a gag order until the trial. for one thing, because of her notoriety, there is no way a jury can be seated that won't have already heard this information. releasing this deposition is basically a way for the lawyer for the plaintiff to pressure deen into settling because of the threat of bad press. it's a misuse of the judicial system and an embarrassment, regardless of the merits of the claims against deen.

ITT people confuse "freedom of speech" with "freedom of speech without consequences."

No one is saying that she doesn't have a right to say what she is saying. She's welcome to go to the rooftops and shout "NIGGERS NIGGERS NIGGERS" until the end of her life.

But her advertisers and her network probably don't want to be associated with a person who espouses those types of views, since they're a business and they know that people might very well not want to watch a network or a show that supports a person like that. So just as she has the right to express her self, they have the right not to financially support her for doing so.
