Quote :
"My name is Rebecka Brown. My husband and I are the proud owners of Merlin, a one year old lab/boxer mix dog. We have three children, all boys, and we are definitely a family of animal lovers!

Unknowingly, my husband was hunting on game lands and his current hunting license was not meant for the area he was in. He received a ticket for the violation along with a court date. He had his license fixed the very same day but forgot all about his court date. That is how this whole fiasco began.

A detective with the Carteret County Sheriff's Department came to our home on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, between the times of 10:15-10:45 am, with a warrant for a failure to appear appear in court for Jeff concerning the hunting ticket. I was not home because our oldest son was having asthmatic issues and I was summoned to his school. The officer left his business card in my front door, so naturally I called the number immediately to find out why an officer had been here.

He told me that we had a few things to talk about. He told me of the warrant and explained it to me. He then told me he had to tase my dog. Astonished, I ask him why and he said my dog attacked him. Omg!!! I asked him if he was okay... I was in complete shock! He said he was fine, not so much as a scratch on him.

He instructed me that the taser did not shock Merlin because only one prong made a connection with him. He told me how to remove the object by comparing it to removing a tick from your flesh. We ended the call and I made my way to the back door to remove the prong but Merlin wouldn't let me near him. I could see the prong protruding from his back but but he just cowered and whined. So I called my husband and he told me to wait for him to get home. I took a few photos of the prong and went back inside.

I would try every hour or so to coax Merlin into coming to me and on one of these attempts is when I noticed his eye. There was a little blood under the lid of his right eye and the eyeball itself resembled an old rubber party balloon. Pure emotion flew through my body! My dogs eye was really messed up! I called my husband back and told him what I found. He told me to stay inside and wait for him to return.

A family friend came over to help me .... comfort me.... thank goodness for her! We managed to get the prong out but in doing so, we realized that the way the prong was in his back flesh, Merlin was shot from behind!!! We had to pull the object out by pulling in the direction of his tail! Then we inspected his eye. The actual eyeball was ripped open!!!

I immediately called the deputy back but only got his voicemail. I called the Sheriff's Department and told them that an officer assaulted my dog. An hour later they pulled into my driveway. Two deputies spoke with me and I told the the chain of events and what I had found. At first they were very supportive of their fellow officer, they had called him prior to coming to my house to get his version of the incident. They asked to see Merlin, so I took them inside to him. As soon as he saw them, he cowered to the side, wimpered, and started to visibly shake. The deputy took a step towards him and Merlin started to growl. He was responding to the uniform... I informed the deputy that this is not his normal behavior and that he is responding out of fear. A uniform, just like theirs, had seriously injured him.... he was afraid of another round with that uniform!

Back outside, I showed the deputies the pics that I took of Merlin back and eye. I showed them proof that he was shot from behind and that he was hit/beaten with something.... a Maglight.... a night stick, perhaps.... I don't know. But what I can tell you is that my dogs injuries are not jiving with the story the deputy gave me or these two other deputies.

Since this day I have hit nothing but road blocks! I tried to file a formal complaint with the Sheriff's Department and I was shuffled away. I went to the magistrate to press charges for animal cruelty and I was told that I couldn't because he is a law enforcement officer!!! So, I went to the district attorneys office to lodge a complaint and get an investigation underway. I was directed to the SBI (State Bereau of Investigation).

At 3:15pm, the captain of the department paid me a visit to my home, unannounced to inform me that NO further investigation would take place!!!

Merlins vet says that he sustained a serious trauma to the eye/head and will most likely need surgery to repair his eyeball... that is if he gets to keep his eye!

No investigation because their officers are all perfect and without fault.... I have made it my mission to find justice for Merlin and in doing so, I hope to help find justice for all mistreated animals! "

I have personally witnessed Carteret County sheriffs and City police in this area get away with things that they should not get away with.

I don't like this one bit.

tl;dr
Sheriff's Deputy comes to issue warrant
Attacks dog tied up in the back yard
Family wants justice for the dog

in the same way that sawahash has seen LEO's get away with things they shouldn't, I've seen way too many people in that part of the state treat dogs in ways they shouldn't. you shouldn't leave your dog fucking chained up in your yard. i have no idea if its illegal or not in that county, but its not cool regardless.

since we are making assumptions about the actions of a cop, I'm going to make assumptions about the asshole who is poaching, skipping court dates, and leaving dogs chained up in their yard. that guy sounds like a dipshit.

^^I don't know the situation behind the dog being tied in the back yard...but I know several people who leave their dog in the back yard. In a safe environment with shade and water. I mean it is an animal and I remember the weather this day, it wasn't particularly hot, fairly pleasant. I even wore jeans that day.

that just means the wife is fat. redneck guys fall into one of two categories, and the ones in the skinny category have fat wives.

Ethics of having a dog tied up in the yard have no relevance here. That's a different thread.

Fuck that cop. I can't believe anyone on here would defend him. If anyone else approached a pet that was tied up in a person's backyard and beat the shit out of it you would call them a sociopath.

But hey, you dicks can enjoy this family's suffering. After all, they probably cheer for Duke or UNC even though they never went to college. They deserve it and they're not as important as the elite upper class we have on TWW.

Unknowingly hunting on game lands my ass

The redneck thought he could do what he pleases

I don't feel sorry for these sorts of people with all the poaching I see and reduction in patrols by wildlife officers these people know it and use that to try and get over

I wouldn't put it past a family with the head of household having such a track record to lie about the dog being chained and not being aggressive or being improperly bred to hunt etc

The cop probably came up and the dog was runnin lose and aggressive and was probably tasted while it was circling or darting back and forth ( hence being shot from "behind")

Dog probably spent its whole life in some state of abuse

BUT FUCK THE COPS THESE POOR HISTORICALLY GOOD CARTERET COUNTY FOLKS CAN IN NO WAY BE AT FAULT

What we have here is an attempt to get up out of the trailer park on the government dime

The aggression/ bred to hunt questions are also irrelevant. An officer exercising a warrant for arrest during the day should have seen the dog and known not to enter his space. This officer is basically saying his arrest warrant allows him to go anywhere on a person's property and destroy anything that gets in his way. But let's face it, this is more than property damage...He didn't kick over a bird feeder. He attacked the family pet. That's fucked up in a number of ways.

If the dog really wasn't chained up that should come out in the investigation.

I don't think you understand what an arrest warrant is...

That said, the deputy went into the situation knowing the warrant was for an individual with a weapon (hunting charge), personal safety was more than likely the number one thing on his mind.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree here. You choose to assume the dog was running around loose with no evidence other than your predisposed idea of who these people are. I choose to believe the dog was on a lead unless the officer wants to deny it himself.

i think we should create a mob mentallity in support of the redneck who was illegally poaching and skipping court dates, because we should trust them and the internet is always right. we don't even need a trial, ship the deputy to wherever they are holding the kid with the blue duffel bag from the Boston bombing.

the victim here is the dog

owner shouldn't have chained him up. cop should have been more cautious.

it's probably better that he's dead rather than living with a hick who treats him like property.

Have y'all never left a dog on a lead outside before? I do it all the time. My dog loves to lounge outside so we put him on the lead so that he can and won't run into the road. When did putting a dog outside become inhumane? She said she wasn't home because she was getting her kid from school... which means she is probably home during the day a lot.
growing up we would always have our dog outside on a run or lead. Never had a vicious dog either...

Its not a lead its a chain. Its a fucking wild animal that you shouldn't have because you don't have the space for it and you don't have the time to spend with it.

Chaining your dog is the equivalent to censoring the internet. Yeah its outside but it can't do any of the shit it wants... like being a dog.
