^^ well that's just stupid...and a lie.
^ minimal voice wouldn't run super high (I'm talking <450 - nobody needs to talk that fucking much), no text because of google voice had me out under $70.

Verizon is admittedly the most expensive. I doubt AT&T is much cheaper.
If you want cheap, go to Sprint, but ya get whatcha pay for.

You'd be pretty close to $100 if you actually wanted fairly reliable service. Assuming you needed unlimited texting, the cheapest pre-Share Everything Verizon "listed" plan was $59.99 for 450min and unlimited texting + $29.99 for unlimited data so ~$90 before taxes.
Quote : | "No joke. I have no need for unlimited text and voice. I just need data, a couple of minutes and google voice will take care of texts." |
And that's why they're going Share Everything with the current trend of people using data and very little minutes. Tmobile and Sprint can't afford to hold out much longer.

Saw something about late next year for LTE only phones. Still take a while before they phase out their 3G and 1x network though.
http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/27/4467742/verizon-turns-lte-service-500th-market-volte-2014
Quote : | "Though Verizon has made a lot of headway in its LTE rollout, Palmer also revealed that the long-awaited deployment of voice over LTE (VoLTE) won't happen until 2014, later than prior estimates of by the end of this year. When VoLTE does finally arrive, we can expect it to be rapidly deployed across Verizon's network — it won't be a staggered rollout as we've seen with standard LTE service. Additionally, though Verizon has more or less covered its entire 3G network with LTE service, we won't see any LTE-only smartphones until the end of next year and it doesn't expect to refarm its existing 3G spectrum to LTE until 2015." | ] 6/27/2013 7:55:09 PM

I... i might go t-mobile...
I can't stand a huge ass phone bill. currently pay $88 for 1000 anytime minutes, unlimited text, and unlimited data (3G, old Verizon plan). Granted, this isn't "huge" per se, but damn if I don't think this is a lot of money...
I use about 5Gb of data. I pandora the fuck out of my phone. so... with that said...
Screw t-mobil. Cheaper monthly rate, but I have to buy a new $400 phone or provide my own? Unless I'm missing something...
Republic looks entriguing... But it's off the sprint network... Grr... Guess you gotta pay to play?

Nothing except through satellite. Parents just switched to DishNET and while it has the expected lag, it's not too bad. Way more stable than the Verizon mifi they had assuming it's not raining. 6/27/2013 8:43:13 PM

Cheapest is $49.99 for 5GB @5Mbps. 10GB and 15GB are $59.99 and $79.99 both @10Mbps. If you're a night owl, you get an additional 5,10,15 between 2 and 8am. Also give a $10 discount if you have a Dish tv package. Parents have the 5GB one and it's plenty fast for the occasional video streaming.

Go with Ting. It's on Sprint's network, so it's not quite as good as Verizon's, but there's no contract.
Their customer service is very helpful. For two people, I pay about $60 or less a month. It's TONS better than Verizon -- they charge insano prices. I'm glad as heck to be rid of them.
Here's a link to get $25 off your first month with Ting: https://zg8obp7g41.ting.com/

On a related note, I got bored and decided to order an AT&T Net10 sim off ebay for .99. $45/mo for unlimited everything (well not quite unlimited, they cut your data at 2.5GB unless you're using the Tmobile sim) Popped it in my Verizon GS3 and everything worked fine after adding the APN to get data and mms working. Only downside is that it's limited to edge data because Verizon blocks the 3G bands. 6/27/2013 9:23:11 PM

I just pulled up my receipt from 2011 when I joined Verizon.
I paid $40 for 450 minutes of talking time, $30 for Unlimited Data and $5 for 200 texts (it was another $5 for unlimited texting IIRC).
So I was paying $75 before taxes, or $80 before tax if you wanted unlimited texting. 6/27/2013 11:02:55 PM

Maybe on a dumb phone or you don't turn your phone on when not on wifi. I've been using wifi at home and work this cycle just to see how low I could get it and I've still managed to use ~500MB with about a week to go. Normal average is 2-3GB on LTE.
Quote : | "can you do this with a verizon iphone 4s?" |
Possibly but you wouldn't get 3G so download speeds would be only 100-150k. They had a program where you could bring your own cdma phone and use it on Verizon's network but apparently scrapped it ] 6/28/2013 8:45:22 AM

they're in the middle of nowhere and big red is the only company with decent service out there...but since republic uses wifi, it's worked out well...there's probably 1-2 minutes of driving before they get service after leaving the house, but so far they've been happy
