you don't see wood studs in commercial walls very often

They're metal studs, and crooked at that. A pain to secure things to.

How much did it cost you to lease that space. Sounds like a fun business to run if you have some passive income on the side.

yo, do you happen to have a nano sim cutter?

it'd be cheaper to give you a buck or two for the service than to buy one off amazon, plus you'd make the money back in like 5 uses

dtownral: You're right, sorry. The divider wall has wooden studs, but its just there to separate the front retail area from the back technician's workspace and storage. All the other walls are commercial grade with metal studs dating from the 80's.

robster: Not cheap, but less than other spaces I'd looked at in the area. Mission Valley is also a great place to be . . . . lots of traffic, convenient to Campus and the surrounding areas, secure and safe. Part of every tenant's CAM fee (common area maintenance) pays for 24/7 security patrols (who have called to let me know my door was left unlocked minutes after I left, talk about service). There's also a real sense of community, other store owners have come by to welcome me and give advice and chat. Cloo's has been there for 30-some years! I've even acquired a taste for strange Arabic food since the owner of the Jerusalem Bakery next door brought me over Zataar and meat pies and alcohol-free apple "beer" (which tastes just like hard cider). Now I get my breakfast there every day.

BigMan157: I don't have a "cutter". I do have a sharp knife and very steady hands, and I've cut a good dozen SIM cards down to micro . . . including my own when I switched phones. Come by and I'll take care of yours in a minute or two. You can buy me a soda or something, heh.

I should mention that we are officially open. We went with a "soft" opening, no advertising just going by referrals and word of mouth for a few weeks until everything is organized and running smoothly. Still working on our robot steel skeleton mascot, getting the back technician's area arranged to where I can fix multiple systems at once efficiently, etc.

That being said feel free to bring in anything you want fixed during our business hours (10-8 Mon-Fri, 10-9 Sat) or just come say hi and see the place! For a limited time I'll even let people try to ride the robot base if they promise not to kill themselves.

The base of the robot:

have a Dell V715W printer... well it's probably a rebranded lexmark. anyways, one of the hinges for the lid of the flatbed scanner is broken and won't let the lid sit flush. can you fix this or is it not worth it? the piece that is broken is plastic. By fix, I just make it useable... not only does the flatbed not work correctly most of the time because of this, the ADF is completely useless... which is what I use most.

Also, the wireless functionality on this thing sucks (loses connection/computer says printer is busy/etc.) Anything to help with this?

I sent him a PM a week or two ago about fixing the fan in a MacBook I sent to my Dad to use, and he hasn't replied. Not sure if he's been on lately.

Yeah, I've been spending all my time at the store! We're open 10-8pm Mon-Sat, so stop by or give me a call if you have any questions.

wdprice3: I'll be happy to take a look and see if there's anything I can do, would need to see it first.

fregac fixed up a MacBook poly-body that I was giving to my Dad and it runs as good as new. Nice work. Fast and cost-efficient.

I have a ps3 I had just thrown in a box that stopped working. Dad was talking about getting one thought I might see if you could take a look and fix it and I could give it as an xmas gift. I had it fixed once before after it stopped a second time I just bought a new one.

Any TWW discount? Got some stuff you could look at, though may not be worth your time or my money. Well, I guess it's always worth someone's money.

I dropped by there when I was in town last fall.

Looks like a cross between an episode of Hoarders, and an electronic recycling slim in Bangladesh.

Yea, very disorderly. You didn't know what was for sale and what was there to be fixed.

wdprice3: Yep, still kicking!

rjrumfel: Sorry?

Noen, rjrumfel: Yeah, guilty as charged.

We were getting so much business and so many things in that it was becoming difficult to keep track of it all. I suppose that's a good problem to have, heh. Recently everything has been moved to online ticketing systems and inventory tracking software, and so things are more orderly. If it keeps going like this I'm seriously going to have to consider either moving to a bigger spot or opening a second store!

I'll be by later today.

And a second store would be a good idea, perhaps in north raleigh area...lots of business to be had out that way.

Do you have any use for a mostly working Samsung color laser with a possibly bad image transfer belt?

I'm glad to hear the disorder is from too much business.

I'm also glad to hear that people are still that interesting in having their electronics fixed rather than just chunking them and buying new.

You are abusing the word "random." Seeing a thread for a local business after having seen that local business is one of the least random events.

I know a few people who do, but Carl stole ~$1500 from them then skipped town for 10 years, so they aren't on speaking terms. Probably doesn't help you.
