does prudential stand to profit from longer lifespans? and if so, is it enough for them to fund the science that would make it possible? 7/9/2013 10:30:25 PM

^^No, but it's in their interest to make people think they're gonna live longer than they will.

Probably true. Might turn out to be someone from a traditional culture such as Japanese, Kazakh, etc. But there is a good chance it might be someone from the US who is deeply into an alternative lifestyle, practising calorie restriction, eating only whole foods mostly plants, meditating, exercising, and staying away from stress and negative thoughts. 7/10/2013 6:14:43 AM

Money can only take you so far if you live a decadent life. Once your heart and other organs fail from all the stress and junk you put in your body, sure, you can get new orgns, but again, they will fail again. And anyway, thats just organs. All the cellular damage due to free radicals can not be reversed or repaired. So, if you have bad habits, your body will keep on aging fast, even if you receive a new heart or whatever every decade or so. And that will be the end of you.
Of course, if they find the "Fountain of Youth" in the coming decades with all the stem cell research going on, thats another story. 7/10/2013 8:02:56 AM

Do you still smoke cigarettes, 0EPII1?
Just to get the full picture, 0EPII1 also lives the following lifestyle: i don't do drugs. i don't drink alcohol (at all). i drink 4-6 carbonated drinks/year. i eat fast food 4-6 times/year. (usually goes with the above) i don't eat crappy packaged snacks/cereals/etc.

No i dont smoke, and the rest is true.
But i am also lazy as fuck, dont exercise, dont meditate, eat more desserts than i should, have bad sleeping habits, and get angry/emotional/sad too quickly.
I will be lucky if i get to half of that advertised age. 7/10/2013 8:39:14 AM

I only started when i was 27. First it was one cig every other day for a couple of months, then one a day for a couple of months, then 2 a day, till i reached my max of 6-7 a day in a year and a half after starting. After 4 years of smoking, i reversed the process and quit within a few months, but not fully. For 2 years after that, i did very light smoking, 2 cigs per week. Now for 3 years or so, i have been smoke free. Good thing i never got properly addicted, not physically anyway.

The idea being that if it's modern medicine that going to be extending lives (like stem cell therapy or whatever), those therapies might only be accessible by wealthy people, not by some roughage-eating hut-dwelling communal-farming all-day-meditating hippies.] 7/10/2013 9:46:30 AM

I have no idea what the lifespan of primitive humans was, but I would guess it's higher than 35. And certainly more than 1% reached that.

I dont know what is the name of the fallacy that mildew is making, but it is definitely a fallacy and irrelevant today.
Synapse, i referenced the money only in the context of today's medical technology. And i also referred to the fountain of youth, if discovered, changing the whole game. Absent any such future technology, those hippies you so lovingly referred to have the best chance 7/10/2013 10:49:28 AM
