We have an old Samsung DLP (HLS5687W) that will not turn on (turns on, lamp light blinks a few times, then it turns off). I replaced the lamp and the issue persists. The authorized Samsung repair shop wants $85 to look at it and said they would most likely have to replace the lamp for $175 - I then let them know I already did it for $30 (and took about 4 minutes to complete).

Any shop in the area that will look at it for free and give a reasonable quote?

I had this same problem 3 years ago w/ my Samsung DLP.

My advice is to clean it up- remove all the dust/dirt. Take a few pictures and sell it on craigslist- of course disclosing that the unit needs to be repaired.

I sold my 50" for $150. Some kid drove his hoopty up to my house. I invited him in and showed the TV. Got cash, then helped him load it in the car... a 2 door Chevy Malibu

sounds like a power supply issue take a peek inside and look for burned, chared , and bulged capacitors

Also I'd check the door switch(es) as those models are known to either have switches that deform from heat cycling or just crap out. Ideally with a multimeter check that they make/break the circuit correctly.

My store isn't officially open yet, but all my repair equipment will be over there in the next few days. If you want to bring it by just PM me and I'll take care of it for you.
