It wasn't bad,but wasn't great. I've liked a lot of magician-based movies (Prestige, Illusionist), but this was more like an Ocean's 11 heist kind of thing so it wasn't what I was hoping for. 7/18/2013 7:08:40 PM |

Jesse Eisenberg bothers me, so I won't be seeing it
Dunno what it is, but if he's in the movie I have no inclination to see it 7/18/2013 7:53:36 PM |

He is so fucking annoying in this movie.
His voice is nails on a chalkboard to me. I thought it was a pretty good movie, just not the parts where he talked and ruined those parts. 7/19/2013 12:10:43 AM |

I didn't care for the "twist" either...seemed like a lame ending. 7/19/2013 9:54:39 AM |

Zombieland was fantastic. Hate to hear the latest Harrelson/Eisenberg pairing doesn't measure up. 7/20/2013 1:09:56 AM |

**spoilers**
First half okay. It was cool seeing the illusions dissolve.
But..
The ending was terrible. Ok, so he was spending all this time "chasing" his co-conspirators, I guess I can buy that. But there was literally no way for the audience to guess the twist. At least The Usual Suspects had the bulletin board.
Just an arbitrary ending with zero payoff. 7/20/2013 10:58:44 AM |

overall the movie was ok, but that was mostly the first 75%. The end was dumb. what was with the carousel ? seemed like there were 2 endings essentially, one with the cop and one with the magicians and neither fit together to make sense. 7/20/2013 12:24:08 PM |

I enjoyed it most of the way through, but man that ending dragged on.
Personally I would have cut out the last scene completely, shifted the carousel scene to the end of the credits, and properly ended the movie with the cell scene.
But I guess they felt they had to wrap up every little detail. Makes me think nobody working on the movie had ever actually scene a magic show, just read about them. 7/20/2013 9:59:38 PM |

Usual Suspects was driven by a story being told by a character, so he could make up whatever he wanted and it was up to the audience to either trust him or not.
This movie was nothing like that. Sure I get the cop could be lying through speech the whole time, but his actions (even when he wasn't being watched by anyone) were too intense to be part of the act. I would have much preferred it be the French woman even though people would have said afterwards that it was too obvious.7/21/2013 10:08:27 PM |

^ The french woman, Morgan Freeman, the asshole FBI agent, even Lionel Shrike himself probably would have made for a more plausible end of the movie. 7/23/2013 8:42:59 AM |

I thought the previews made it look like Ocean's 11 + magic (as in exactly like that), and nothing like The Prestige or The Illusionist. Aside from the fact that magic was involved, what led you to believe it was going to be anything like the latter two? Now You See Me is a completely different genre of movie. It's like thinking/hopping Austin Powers, James Bond, Spy Game, and The Debt will be similar because they all have spies.

I didn't think it was going to be that much like those movies, but I thought it was going to be about trying to figure out the trick, which was explained throughout the movie. Instead the only question was who is really behind the whole thing and why.
In Prestige and Illusionist we knew what the motivation was the whole time. Here we didn't. 7/24/2013 3:53:20 PM |

Gotcha, that makes sense regarding being in on the trick through the move vs being let in at the end. That is exactly a perfect explanation. And I could see how you got that from the previews for sure. 7/24/2013 5:20:34 PM |
