Household 6 (wife) likes the 2014 explorer sport. I see nothing wrong with the selection, but I have never owned a ford, or really heard of anyone having the newer body style.
Anything bad? good? I'm not here for the "you should buy this", you don't live with household 6, I do. I want to make sure there is not an iceberg out there I'm not seeing.

i got my 2004 sport trac with 8,000 miles on it. I now have 170,000 miles on it. I have had zero problems with it with regular maintenance

i had the explorer sport trac for awhile and absolutely loved it.
I have a colorado now and would actually have preferred the sport trac had it been in the same price range.
The only thing i DIDNT like about it is that Ford's seem to have some wiring/electrical issue on that platform. I read quite a lot of stories about it and mine was no different. 7/25/2013 8:57:42 PM |

Again sport track is not a sport.
Teg sadly most SUVs this size now have no reason to be on a frame. They are just semi masculine mini vans with less functionality then the mini van.

The offroad ability of a unibody SUV with independent suspension is more than capable for 99.99999% of SUV use. We've had ours on wet grassy hills and heavily rutted, muddy logging roads and it did great.

I drove one as a rental recently. The fact that it didn't have a key ignition got on my nerves. You could start it by pressing the engine start buton on the dash or pressing a button sequence on the fob. I'm not sure if this is standard or just on higher end models. 7/26/2013 12:02:52 PM |

welp, bought a 2014 Sport Black outside, Black interior, with the bundle of goodies packge of everything. And a moon roof becuase the wife said so.
-I didnt get the adaptice cruise control (my reasoing, its a radar in the nose, small bump up turns into "holly jesus" $ repair) -didnt get the individual middle seats (the bench comes with sunken in a little with a drop down divider, so why pay more for a gap?!) - tow package (im a girly man, dont know how to tow)
-Got litterally everything else.
BTW, you can buy a car over the phone and email from afghanistan. I better get anal when i get home.
Couldnt find anything bad in reviews thats a show stopper. Honestly, looking at cars online for 3 months, this has alot for the money. We looked at smaller BMW, Infinity, GMC, Chevy, Audi... and to sum up, luxury cars in the small cross over, fully loaded are at 45-50k. I like fully loaded, and the explorer sport is pretty nice for only 5k more than a smaller fully loaded GMC Terrain Denali (the other choice). Also, by pure luck, the dealer i called went to high school with me and gave me a deal, so hell, why not. Happy wife, happy life. 7/26/2013 1:28:20 PM |

Bingo, haha. I've taken my Integra (lowered 1.25" from stock) down muddy trails where a buddy of mine got his Grand Cherokee stuck (granted it was only 2WD and I don't think he's a great driver) but still, his ground clearance was easily double mine
Of course, the lower piece of my bumper was ripped off

Been with it for 1 week, it's amazing what you get for the price. It has great response on the accelerator, handles well for an suv, feels more like a large car. The my touch screen is a bit slow ( a lot of negative feed back online) but I never had a touch screen in a car so i don't care too much. Cross traffic rear sensors are super awesome and the adaptive cruise is decent (is not worth the money, but is nice, so a wash overall). Style is better than imexpsected, black wheels are very fitting, and overall it's a great ride.
I reccomend getting the sport, it's worth it. If you don't want all the features, I reccomend a smaller cross over for less. The sport has nice features found on a 60k luxury suv, but yet only costs 45k. without the sport trim or features, it's just a standard suv, you can save money by going smaller to a gmc terrain or Chevy equinox.
