My Philadelphia photos, let me show you them. Saw the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were debated and signed, the Constitution Center, early copies of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and George Washington's copy of the Constitution, along with a printing of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Lincoln, the pre-DC meeting places of the US Supreme Court, the House, and the Senate, the Betsy Ross House, and more.

Mac’s Tavern was formed by a small to semi-medium group of partners, comprised mainly of old friends. Mixed with a few national, local and (perhaps) cult celebrities – most notably, Rob and Kaitlin McElhenney of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame – the dynamic is as unique as it gets." |

^^Technically there is a Paddy's Pub in Philadelphia. It is on Race St between 2nd and 3rd (in Old City a few blocks from Mac's Tavern). Complete Dive Bar. I would stick with Mac's Tavern, but if you want the "full" experience you can hit that one up as well. 8/5/2013 10:05:21 PM

Got my cheesesteak today, went by the Philadelphia Museum of Art, by the Benjamin Franklin National Monument, ate at Reading Market, saw Pacific Rim at a real IMAX, and found an awesome ice cream place.

It's been 9 or 10 years since I visited so hopefully it got better, but man I was dissappointed in Philly. So much history and awesome things to see/visit, but the people sucked, the city/downtown was dirty, and there were homeless people everywhere. 8/7/2013 9:55:50 AM

Philly is such an amazing city. One of my favorites. Lots of cool neighborhoods, so many great restaurants and bars, and somehow it's still pretty affordable (that's probably changing fast, though). I love how narrow most of the streets are; it's built at a very human scale.
 30th St Station
Philly has some of my favorite residential streets in the US
Rittenhouse Square is consistently named one of the best public spaces in the country
Jim's Steaks is my favorite in the area around center city (ignore the tourist traps of Pat's and Geno's, but if you do go there choose Pat's)
South Street is kind of a shitshow but fun
Would love to live on a street like this some day
 Reading Terminal is amazing
In addition to all of the famous murals, there's a lot of cool stuff like this

Philly has definitely revitalized/gentrified significantly since 10 years ago.

Quote : | "As our forthcoming "State of Center City" report shows, serious crimes have been reduced by half over the last 20 years, car burglaries by three-quarters. New landscaping, pedestrian-scale lighting, and signs create a welcoming environment day and night. We can enjoy 213 outdoor cafés and 328 percent more fine dining establishments (and have the waistlines to prove it). There's been a 95 percent increase in hotel rooms, and the state-of-the-art, downtown convention center has just doubled in size." |
Quote : | "Center City's population has increased 26 percent over the last two decades, to 93,000 residents, 63 percent of whom walk, bike, or take mass transit to work. The number of college-educated residents has jumped 27 percent in 20 years, while more than 17,000 children have been born to Center City families in the last 10 years." |

^^ When we went to Philly last year (when that pic I posted was taken) I had a friend with me that had never been to Philly. He ate a Cheesesteak for every meal, even got a breakfast cheesesteak in the PHI airport the morning we left.
I couldn't get him to eat one with Cheez Wiz on it though, which is the true Philly experience.

You would have felt the same damn way if right across the street from the Liberty Bell, you had to step around the homeless guy lying in the middle of the fucking sidewalk and then having to basically ignore all the people begging for money around every corner. Yeah I understand that homeless and poor people are everywhere, but the city should at least try and keep them from loitering all around the "touristy" areas. Again this was 9-10 years ago so maybe it's better.
As for the people, I worked for about 4 months in that area and yes many of the people were straight up assholes. Maybe it was just the weather or something, but a lot the people acted like they hated life. 8/7/2013 1:41:10 PM

^^ It's definitely changed a lot. I hadn't been there in over a decade and was expecting the same things you describe. I saw none of it. Especially downtown and the South St. area.

My only complaint about Philly is that on July 4th SEPTA delays/incompetence nearly resulted in me spending the night on a bench at the Trenton train station. 8/7/2013 2:18:23 PM

What does this even mean? It's my opinion of Philly based on my visits there 10 years ago. And yes I think cities like Philly, DC, New York, etc should try and keep the homeless and panhandlers away from the touristy areas. It's good for business/tourism for them to do so. You act like I am the only person who feels this way. I am not vacationing/visiting so I can see poor people. If I want to do that, I'll go to some of the neighborhoods in Fayetteville.
