I cannot tell the difference when using them. I have no idea what they're for, it just seems I'm throwing them into the dryer for no reason.

Free thread.

they also leave a slight film on your clothes that makes them less absorbent

ergo, you should dry all of your towels separately without a dryer sheet

My mother uses like 93 dryer sheets in every load of laundry. I hate using her towels because they don't absorb a damn thing.

I had some moron suite mates back in college who would use this method...aka the silencer...when they smoked up, that shit does not work at all. The whole dorm stank like weed all the time.

you had to use multiple paper towel rolls taped together with 6-10 sheets stuffed in. couldn't just use a stubby from a roll of TP.

My freshman roommate and I had a good system with a silencer and a box fan in the window at Lee Hall. We could sit in our bean bag chairs and take massive rips only to blow it through the tube and watch the window fan exhaust everything out. good times.

they also leave a film on your filter, causing your dryer to be less effecient.

while we're on that subject, does anyone have a good method for cleaning a lint screen in a dryer?

the removeable screen? or do you have a built-in screen, too? Generally, a vacuum can get most of the stuff out of the dryer (at the vent opening).

The removeable screen can just be rinsed off easy enough.

What I remember seeing was you can't just rinse it off, because the dryer sheest leave a waterproof film on the lint screen (like it does on chlothes). I saw a demonstration where you could pour water on the lint screen and it wouldn't pass through.

If you're using cheap, store brand dryer sheets, its difficult to tell the difference. I know this because I've cheaped out and bought them before...and there's barely a difference.

The brand name stuff (like "Bounce") gives your clothes a nice scent as well as preventing static.

I also haven't noticed my towels losing "absorbability"...and I usually double up on the dryer sheets when drying my towels. Like for them to have that extra scent.

just throw in white vinegar to restore the absorbability of your towels

also, Borax to keep your whites white

^^^agreed. store brand dryer sheets are terrible. That's one item I usually spend the extra money for because it truly makes a difference.

i also have not been able to see a difference in towel absorb-ability, but then again all i've known is towels dried with a sheet. (usually hanging in the sun and then fluffed in the dryer afterwards)

^agreed. washing towels alone on the hottest setting with a cup of white vinegar (no detergent) will also rid the towels of any "funk" smells your towels might have.

I used to rub the clothes I was wearing with dryer sheets if I had just been smoking and my parents were coming by. Didn't get rid of the scent entirely but masked it temporarily enough to get by.
