So, I live in Germany now, in this tiny town called Münster. Today, I go to a cafeteria for an afternoon break to get some ice cream. I can barely speak any German, but I ask the lady at the counter for one scoop of pistachio. She immediately picks up the accent and asks me (in German because she could not speak English) where I am from, to which I reply that I am from the States. Then she asks what State, and I being a bit surprised since most people just nod their head when you say that you are from America, I tell her that I am from NC. She replies that it is lovely there and beutiful. So, I get ready to leave when she tells me that she does not like the knew political party in NC, and then makes a reference to the new GOP establishment and their recent attacks on ... everything it seems.

How embarrising is that? Some random Euorpean has heard about the NC GOP and the ultra conservative legislation. Do those fucktards realize how much of an international embarrasment they are?

1. She knew more about NC politics than most americans not living in NC

2. It is actually embarasing that we have a governing party that does not care for the middle class so much. In (Northern) Europe, there is a much stronger middle class and many more women in the work force. Also, having a child in (Northern) Europe does not mean that you have to struggle with maternity leave and daycare. On the contrary, both the mother and father are granted leave and daycare must be provided by the city according to the law. They also charge according to your income (whereas in the States it is a flat rate), and for most people in the lower middle class it ends up being free.

3. The news here is actually news, and the people are just much more informed about national and world politics than Americans. This woman did not speak English, which means that for a German she was not that well educated. The equivalent person in America probably could not point out Germany or France on a map.

those data are from 2011 though, so maybe you have a more recent source
