I don't dislike any of the Avengers films. Cap 1 and Thor 2 were both good movies, but at the bottom of my list.

Meh...it was entertaining, but didn't meet the lofty expectations everyone has been gong crazy about. And I knew t was going to be "lighter"....but it was a little too childish. I really wanted to like this more.

My wife also fell asleep during the movie. I wanted to chastise her for it...but couldn't really blame her...

Well...doesn't change my stance.

I didn't think it was a bad movie, just wondering why everyone has been freaking out about how good it was. Maybe I just got caught up in the hype too much. I don't get to the movies as much anymore and I was really pumped about this one.

And my wife seriously did fall asleep during this one. She normally keeps it together for action films...but I think the complete lack of realism in this one caused her to lose interest quickly. For example...she can take comic book movies like Iron Man because the majority, if not all, of the movie is on Earth and has somewhat realistic plots/themes/actions. Movies like Thor definitely push the envelope with different galaxies/planets/superpowers...but still have human characters and some settings/action on our planet. Guardians is like Thor on crack. I can handle it...she thinks it might as well be a cartoon for adolescents.

Great flick that definitely out ranks Cap2 and Avengers for me. One of my biggest problems with both of those movies was that the final action scenes were way too long and a bit dull.

Compared to those two films, GOTG's final shoot-out was over really quickly. Plus, I think it was cleverly done. I loved the fact that it was essentially a live action version of Space Invaders ("Don't let them touch the ground!").

I liked it and would probably watch again once it gets to Netflix. The one thing that kinda bothered me is the badass assassin chick seemingly always getting her ass kicked and unable to defend herself against fairly normal characters.

I mean...you realize that the job of an assassin is to stay unnoticed long enough for a single strike against a single target, right? And that an assassin's target is generally a person of political influence, the kinds of people who generally aren't physically powerful or particularly talented at martial arts? Assassins aren't automatically great at fighting. Historically, most of them are lucky to escape the scene of the murder.

I get that movies, video games, novels, and tabletop roleplaying games have warped our perception of "assassin" to be shorthand for "all-around martial badass," but it's just not the case.

She couldn't steal a ball from a human. Her only plan for the theft was to grab it and run.

Well, yeah, because she underestimated him. He was acting like a goober. I would've just grabbed it and run, too.

She probably tailed him for a while to size him up then decided he was an easy mark. You don't deploy the full potential of your skills and resources against each and every assignment you get. You get a sense of what's required and execute accordingly.

on the flip side, I thought it was rad how the hyper-masculine Drax was basically useless for most of the movie.

He inadvertently saved Gamora's life in the Kyln (never mind that he meant to kill her himself), saved Quill's life during their escape from the Kyln, called Ronan & Nebula to Knowhere, fought (and lost to) Ronan on Knowhere, fought with Quill and Groot aboard the Dark Aster to get to Ronan, and finally took on part of the destructive power of the Orb to help Quill defeat Ronan. I wouldn't say "useless," but yeah, he wasn't exactly Superman.

Finally watched it last night at a drive-in.

Ronin's only reason for being pissed off was there was a peace treaty between the Kree and Xandar? That was it?

What was the point of the Collector character? Was it just a buyer and that's it or is he something larger?

Enjoyed the humor and was a fun movie.

Well they didn't go too deeply into the specifics, but they said the war had been going on for a thousand years. Whatever drove the empires to war probably hasn't been resolved yet, and if Xandar got the favorable end of the treaty then obviously lots of Kree will be pissed.

Ronin was probably just a powerful general who wasn't done fighting yet. Like those Japanese dudes who kept fighting WW2 for decades after it was over.

Guys, please. It's Ronan, not Ronin.

In the comics, he's a member of a group called the Elders of the Universe. They're basically people who are not cosmic entities but who possess a portion of the Power Primordial, the leftover energy of the Big Bang. They're all ancient, single-minded, and immensely powerful.

I doubt the movie version has all that baggage. It's enough that he's clearly a well known figure with considerable resources and a twisted desire to build a collection of unique objects from throughout the universe.

plus he links the move to Thor 2: Electric Boogaloo

so are the Skrulls ever going to show up or does Fox own the rights to them because of the Fantastic 4 franchise?

Yeah, Skrulls is Fantastic Four shit.

What's kinda funny about that is that the Chitauri from The Avengers originally appeared as the Ultimate universe's version of the Skrulls in The Ultimates back in 2002, and early set photos led to a lot of speculation that the Chitauri were going to appear and impersonate the Avengers with their shapeshifting powers.

Then we got those dumb Chitauri that were nothing like the comics, and shapeshifting didn't figure into the plot at all. So it's like...okay, we're just throwing that particular element out the window, huh? No chance of a Secret Invasion adaptation in the cinematic universe?

(Not necessarily a bad thing.)

Thanks. I kind of missed what Ronan said in his soliloquy when they introduce him near the start of the movie.

We'll find out July 28 2017. There is a definite answer in the comics, but they are not going to use the same person. I've heard speculations of Adam Warlock or an Inhuman

I see the Chitauri make an appearance here as soldiers as well.

Are they like the universe's hired goons? We've seen them already in 2 marvel universe movies.

And I think one of the best parts of this movie is the soundtrack.
