my ex liked ordering Outback to-go and it was always just average. Sure Outback isn't the best, but it's not that bad. but it's just not the same pulling a luke warm steak and soggy (insert your side of choice) from a Styrofoam container. 8/14/2013 3:22:53 PM

I never tip Papa Johns when I get carryout. I feel like a cheap ass having to put ZERO in the tip line on the receipt, but damn, I'm already paying for the product. What other service is there? 8/14/2013 4:33:17 PM

the best way to go about this is ignore the tip line, write in the subtotal in for the total, and sign it.
the tip line is a guilt game that every establishment that uses it is aware of.

I rarely do either. The distinction for Outback is those people are getting paid $2.13/hour while the Papa Johns worker is getting paid a wage, which is built into the pizza price.] 8/14/2013 4:42:37 PM

they aren't putting a tip line on your check to try and get you. most of these places use the same bill/receipt format for dine-in or carry-out/delivery. obviously you would use the tip line if you dined in and had table service or if a driver delivered your food. For a carry-out order just ignore it. No big deal.] 8/14/2013 4:52:59 PM

If its a restaurant, I'll do a couple bucks, but no more than 10%. I sure as shit won't give 5 on a $30 bill.

That is correct. I worked there in 2005-2007 as a host, then to-go server, and about to be a server making $2.13/hr + tips, then got a raise to $3.13. The to-go servers do work harder because the managers rarely help pull food for you and you do have to box it up yourself. You have to pull your own bread, wrap it up, put the to-go ramucken (sp?) of butter and sauces, prepare all the sides and drinks, and run back and forth all damn day. I enjoyed it.....but it can be hectic.
Screw all you people who refuse to tip to-go servers. SOME places don't do anything but pick up the bag from the kitchen, but Outback to-go servers WORK.
[Edited on August 14, 2013 at 8:18 PM. Reason : Between all the calls and the people who just pull and park....it gets chaotic on weekends.] 8/14/2013 8:17:38 PM

So you're saying you do tip 15-20% on occasion, if the bill total is high enough?
Also if the scenario is you and someone go out for lunch, you both get the lunch specials, the total is $15 total, you will only tip up to $1.50 max?] 8/14/2013 8:35:29 PM

Wait. I think there's confusion.
If I sit down and eat at the restaurant, I routinely tip 20%+. If I get take out at the same restaurant, no more than 10%.
This thread is about take out, so I didn't qualify the statement. 8/14/2013 8:41:08 PM

Once, I had pizzas delivered and all I had were 100's and no one else had cash. The girl that was delivering it ended up giving us the two pizza's free, but I told her when she got off, to come back to get the money. She ended up coming back at like 4 in the morning while we were still partying and ended up partying with us till the sun came up. 8/14/2013 8:57:35 PM

I don't tip for carry out chinese food or pizza, nor have I done it for Outback except when it was on the company dime.
What's really annoying is the tip line at Moe's and other quick service dine in places. Taking my order and assembly line constructing my sandwich or burrito does not deserve a tip.
I'll tip at Baja or Ruckus, but only because I go there all the time and the food is consistently worth more than I am charged.
Tips are for valets, bell hops, doormen, bartenders and people who serve you at an actual sit down restaurant. 8/15/2013 11:44:19 AM
