What is it about this place that makes it so popular? I've been a time or two and it was fine, but nothing special. Is it the only real bar in the area?

yeah, it really is the only bar in the immediate area

therefore: annoying, and filled with yuppies who are either going to Target before or a movie after

What in the area do you prefer?

i've always felt like the likelihood of someone driving away from lynnwood grill drunk was a lot higher than some place downtown due to the ubiquitous nature of cabs toward the city center.

^^ That's what I was asking. I'm not familiar enough with the area to know if it's the only place to go. FWIW, you shouldn't go anywhere on Fayetteville other than Foundation on a weeknight.

^ Sitting on the corner of Martin & Salisbury last night, we counted no less than 35 unique cab companies.

North Raleigh is a wasteland when it comes to bars. The new Hibernian is pretty decent as well. Rudino's Rooftop is really nice when the weather is nice. That's all I've got...

In that area I think there's blincos, O'Malleys, sharkys or something, some place on ebenezer church.. Maybe a Mexican restaurant on creedmoor.. The mall and Crabtree tavern and a couple places at Edwards mill. Lynnwood and Rudinos probably look the most inviting

There is also Luxury Box. My neighbors and I usually walk to Lynnwood, but I find myself going to Luxury Box more and more because the food is good, there's always a seat at the bar, and every game is on TV.

Leesville Taproom, Sawmill Taproom, and Buffalo's are other bars somewhat close (I think Buffalo's is actually Carolina Wing Company or something now).

There's sawmill tavern in N Raleigh as well.

We lived closer to Lynn rd and six forks, but often went to Lynnwood for their wings (my favorite in town)--Monday nights are usually slammed. I've only been a few times since the new building open as we moved by the time it did. Rooftop is cool, but I liked the former location more.

Iirc, Lynnwood started their own shuttle system for surrounding apartment complexes and neighborhoods to prevent their patrons from drinking and driving bc of the cab situation. ^^aha. Didn't see yours til after I posted, but this means I wasn't crazy thinking they had that.

seriously their wings are pretty good

while it's not a destination bar, it is one of the few places in that area that is open every day til 2AM

Plus they serve consistently good food

I can walk into Lynnwood at 1:30AM and order a pizza, and without complaining, they'll make that pizza the same as if it was 5PM and give it to me with a smile

Their closest competition is Crabtree Tavern, Rudinos, Edwards Mill Bar & Grill, Blincos, and O'Malleys. The first 3 are just "okay" and the last 2 you couldn't pay me to go to.

On the flip side, I think all the beer they brew in-house is awful

^ the owner is a self proclaimed "hop-head", and he wanted all their beer to have a distinct hoppy taste.

There is also a bar under Fat Daddy's.

ive ordered take-out from there once and was very unimpressed.

However, last week i met some friends up there around lunch time and it was very good, much larger menu when you dine in.

I really should go there more often being that I live right there

another option in the area is Leesville tap room..at 540 and leesville. ..but after going to lynnwood I would not go to leesville tap room again, so many reasons..

lynwood also provides a shuttle service apparently..

i kid, but seriously that place is pretty gross. it's not too bad if you wanna shoot some pool and engage in some pretty entertaining people watching. you can order food from Fat Daddy's too.

the only reason sawmill is worth going to their deck and one of their bartenders Rahim. outside of their pickle chips and cheese fries their food is pretty boring.

the only reason to go to blincos is to play their assortment of table and video games. they used to have one of those cool hickey games but I think it's gone. their food is pretty plain too, decent drink specials though. place attracts a weird crowd too.

i feel like i need to hang out at O'Mallyeys more...never given it a shot

I also enjoy their wings. Their original location, adjacent to the Raleigh Grande, was the short-lived second location of Lilly's Pizza. That old location would get so crowded, it absolutely sucked getting a table.

Since Buffalo's changed to Carolina wing company, they jacked up the prices on just about everything. Will not go back.

Pretty much this, except that Crabtree Tavern blows.

But lynnwood is consistent, and the management aren't retards, which you can't say for most places.

^^ it's like a wannabe biker bar or something. The people are old and regular, if you're not one of them they kinda all stare at you.. But it was ok. Food wasn't particularly good, I don't remember prices.. I'd go again but it wouldn't be my first choice

OMalley's is a shithole.

Edwards Mill B&G has decent food, but is a gin tank full of geezers. They used to have a crazy drunk guy who'd drink til his night shift started at the Teeter, then moonwalk around the bar a few times before leaving.

Rudino's is meh. When I sit on their patio, I feel like it's only a matter of time before some dumbass on their cell phone jumps the curb with the car they're driving and kills us all.

The only good thing about Crabtree Tavern is the two good bartenders. They just fired their old chef and are supposedly redo-ing their menu for the bazillionth time.

If Blinco's actually closed then the forces of good have won a great victory over a place of darkened blight.

But none of this matters b/c Lynnwood is the only place in the area open til 2AM every day. Plus their food trumps all the places listed above.

Blincos is closed. Shame, I actually liked that place when I felt like grabbing a drink with the guys and not having to raise my voice to be heard across the table. Plus the bartenders were pretty awesome. Also, I think they put crack cocaine on their fries

I like Lynnwood, past and present iteration. Rooftop is pretty great on nice nights, but I'd suggest getting a table rather than crowding around the bar.

Decent TV set up downstairs for the sports fans, we head up there a couple times a month on Saturdays during football season.

They've opened up their own brewery. For the most part the beers are pretty good, nothing spectacular but since this is mostly their first run they have the chance to tweak what's working and what's not.

Food is pretty good. Definitely their wings. Pepperoni Rolls are also tasty. Recently they've started having some really decent weekly food features. Other week they had a pizza with hop infused olive oil, fresh mozz, proscuitto, arugala and kalamata olives...it was amazing.

Like most places some people like it, some people won't. You can get a shitty server one night and an amazing one the next. Get to know the staff a bit and they treat you well there though.

The only thing I know about Blinco's is that some off-duty police officers busted up in there and beat the crap out of a cook. And they got away with it because the prosecution somehow neglected to establish that the Blinco's was in the court's jurisdiction.

Y'all remember that?!?!

LOL, anyway, I've never been...the name makes it sound like the kind of place that would smell bad. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Really? I have lived here in the area since 95 and never knew that. I remember is was a sam sneads and a houlihans, definitely don't remember it as an olive garden.

I don't think O'Malleys is bad at all, but it is a different crowd in there. I usually only go to drink, not to eat.
