"The problem is that people conflate having freedom with exploiting freedom. For example, the 2nd amendment allows people to possess firearms. Idiot conservatives seem to think that the freedom to own a firearm means that they can shoot people for frivolous reasons."

"This guy. I could maybe understand shooting someone to stop them from fleeing but this guy hit the thief multiple times, including once in the head. He was clearly shooting to kill. All this over a fucking 12 pack of beer. And multiple people on TWW agree with him and I'd say he has a decent chance of getting away with this because he lives in Texas. People all over the country agree with this radical escalation of violence over something that probably didn't cost more than $20. Lots of people believe what I said. So what's going to stop it? More freedom or more government regulation, because something about this is extremely fucked up and these type of things happen every day."

Okay, some dumbass kills someone over a 12 pack of beer. You just used that as an argument against people who believe in the right to bear arms.

No, I used that as an example to bolster my argument that the reason government takes on seemingly excessive power is because people are irresponsible with their freedom. If people could own guns responsibly then there wouldn't be a need to regulate them.

In the same way that some corporations would package horse meat into hamburgers if there was no FDA to tell people there's horse meat in their food.

Or because jobs exist that cannot possibly support a human life economically we have food stamps and government housing. If businesses actually paid a living wage then it would not be necessary to have those programs. There is no intrinsic sense of social responsibility because extreme capitalism is valued over everything else.
