Fuck that. If my wife was home alone or with the kids and anybody we don't know was banging extremely loudly on the door at 2:30 in the morning, I want her to call the cops. I don't see how her actions were unreasonable at all. Still not understanding what transpired once the police arrived though. Several parts of the story need further explanation at that point. Where was his cellphone so he could call for help? Instead he runs around making a shitload of noise at 2:30 in the morning? He "ran" at the cops once they arrived. What the hell is that? And why did this cause them to attempt to tase and then shoot him? Either way, I don't think her actions are unjustifiable. White guy, black guy, whatever it makes no difference. If my wife was home alone, or even if I was home at the time and a stranger starts randomly making a shitload of noise banging on my door and scaring my family, I am going to call the police.

My mom was home alone and 2 black men knocked on the front door in the middle of the day. She was able to see the front door from an adjacent window and saw them pulling masks over their faces just before they kicked the door in. She called 911 then went into the walk in closet and pulled a bunch of clothes over her. Luckily there was a cop less than 5 minutes away. Both men were caught and had loaded guns on them.

the only thing I am having trouble grasping is how the auto accident took place. This wasn't a main thoroughfare but yet his car was so severely damaged he had to escape out of the rear window. just a really bizarre and tragic chain of events but I'm glad to see that the officer was charged as quickly as he was.

Hate to say it but a lot of home invasion/B&E events have happened when somebody knocks on the door asking for help, to use your phone, or whatever and once they gain entrance, pull a weapon on the homeowner. To me its not a race issue, its just being prudent and safe. Better for her to call the cops then just pulling a gun and killing the guy. Normally I would say let the "professionals" handle it, but does not appear to be the case with this one particular police officer.

I don't get any hate for the woman... it's 2:30 AM and there is a stranger banging on the door. A call to 911 is in order. Now maybe, if after she called 911, she could get a better look and understanding of the situation, then she could have done something differently, but overall it's hard to blame her for what she did.

Durham guy's condition (which I just read about) wasnt disclosed and he was shot after he pointed his gun at one of the officers on the scene. They had also called family members to try and help subdue him.

Given how quickly he was indicted I would guess one or both of the other officers at the scene were surprised/disturbed when the cop in question drew his gun and unloaded a magazine into the guy. That there's that much agreement it was unjustified tells a lot of story. The bit about trying to taze him is probably true . . . . likely just missed.

If he was in that serious of an accident he could have had a mild concussion and not been in his completely right mind. Guy was trying to get help, and seeing the police tried to go up to them without realizing he was seen as a threat rather than victim.

The woman . . . . absolutely no problems with how she handled it. If someone bangs on my door in the middle of the night and I've never seen them before, first thing I'll do is call the cops. I might then open the door and see whats up, but I would call first and have 911 on the line and someone on the way. If the guy DOES really need help or is hurt or whatever then the police are trained and prepared to either give aid or call in whatever is needed (well usually, not in this case it seems). And if he IS a robber or crazy or whatever the cops are already on the way. In my experience RPD gets here in under 5 minutes the few times I've had reason to call them, and have been serious and professional. Maybe I just haven't had a bad experience yet, or Raleigh cops are better than Charlotte/etc.
