arguing a no-call 4 mins when lacey drove to the basket and got tripped up. from tv, gottfried didn't seem to do anything too egregious but you can't see everything from tv either

I like that Karl Hess is universally hated. It's not just State fans that hate him for the Corch/Googs incident. I don't think I've ever seen or heard somebody be indifferent about Hess. Everybody thinks he's garbage

^^^ meh. it's a combination of that and seeing the same refs for more than a decade. most legit fans of every sport know the names of officials.

Nah, we have dozens of referees every season. How many can you honestly name right now? 3? 5? I'd bet it's not even that and of those, how many are nearly universally hated? All of 'em. Refs should be basically invisible. If you see them all the damn time, it means they are fucking up the game. I'm not even claiming a bias against state, just being shitty for everyone.

Jamie Lucky, Ted Valentine, Karl Hess... all freakin terrible.

Football refs (especially head refs) are a little different because every flag they have to face the fans and announce over the mic what the call was. You recognize Hoculi because he is a 60+ year old man who looks like could be in the WWE.
