That's the last team I would bet because Pop doesn't try to win every game.
He rests guys and plays for seeding down the stretch and could give a fuck less about a win total.10/1/2013 9:15:24 PM |

derrick rose can lead a team. the jury out on westbrooke in that regurad.
I cant wait for the season.
I like football more. I like the strategy of football more. it seems in football you are competing with more than the opponent across from you. That being said I cant talk about football as I can basketball. the story lines are more compelling I guess. You can compare on an easier flow like level and eye ball test is the true test. Even through the storyline is always the same mostly. (the best team in the NBA usually always wins the championship unlike football). The history of the NBA is easier to keep up too than the NFL.

I also have no dog in the fight in basketball. maybe when the Hornets change the name. I brought a hornets hat in June. Ive worn it twice. the color are just too ugly. Since I really root for no team it makes it more enjoyable to watch imo. Unlike when I watch the Panthers and they lose I seriously want to punch people in their face after. I also quit watching football for the rest of the day. (Im getting better at this. too many good matchups on.) 10/2/2013 5:55:50 PM |

Disagree. This is one of the more enjoyable threads on TWW. face with his 'Kawhii Leonard single handedly carrying the Spurs in the playoffs last season' was trolling at its best . E Man got a lot of trollees too with his rant on the refs(though there is an element of truth there. The NBA does seems fixed at times). I also like the funny exchange between TT10 and shoot(we all know they are the same person).

this thread is basically me talking about basketball and guys like drod talking about which player they think is the cutest.
Not sure ill participate much. this message board is pretty awful now.
I think once people got old the smart ones moved on with their lives and the idiots kept on posting.
It just leaves me here talking to people who can't hold intelligent discussions.
1) Houston is ridiculously stacked. They will win 60+ games. They have an outside shot to contend for 70 if Dwight is 100% and they stay healthy. This team is just a monster regular season roster. Not as strong of a playoff roster so they won't run away with the championship or anything but they will run away with the regular season if healthy.
2) The Lakers might be the worst team in the league. That team is unbelievably terrible. I think they intentionally made it as bad as possible to tank in this loaded draft class.
3) Denver fucked up a really good team.
4) Wow, Detroit is pretty good again out of nowhere. Sucks the bobcats draft pick won't be any good now.
5) The knicks are fucking terrible now. What the fucking fuck were they thinking. Probably not a playoff team.
6) Rough offseason for Indy, brooklyn, and golden state.
7) West is stacked with Hou, LAC, SAS, and probably OKC and Memphis
8) East is weak. Miami and Bueller... Bueller... nah the bulls could be good but thats it... only other decent squads are detroit and atlanta really.... cleve (if bynum healthy), toronto, and philly are decent and probably over .500 but wow what a weak conference...
9) Gonna be tough for lebron to threepeat. He's relying on a healthy Wade and a healthy Birdman or Oden. And Bosh/Battier/Chalmers not to fall apart again... just a lot to ask for and i dont think he can get any better anymore

I'm not sure I get the tanking aspect that it seems a few clubs are angling for (Philly, LA, Boston) because even if you get the most ping pong balls, you still have a 75% chance of NOT getting the 1st pick.
I'd love nothing more than the Bobcats to come in 5th/6th in the lottery and jump up over tanking teams like Cleveland did to us a few years ago
An overarching theme that ESPN will probably beat to absolute death is Lebron opting out after this season. I listen to KLAC while I cook dinner and Lakers fans are absolutely convinced he's coming to LA. I just don't see it. Why would he go play for a dumpster fire of a front office, with a roster that isn't even close to winning anything even with him, a terrible coach, and one of the worst and most selfish teammates in the league. It would be nothing but headaches because Kobe would never give up alpha dog status and defer to Bron.
IMO, he opts out then eventually re-signs with the Heat. If I'm Lebron and I have to trust my future to someone, Pat Riley > GM's everywhere else he would consider going 10/3/2013 8:53:59 AM |

I agree with Steve Kerr. Heat won't get a threepeat. They are too tired. They have been in Finals for the last three years. They will be tiring out at the end of the regular season and break up into pieces just like Lakers of 10-11 season. 10/3/2013 9:54:54 AM |
nOOb All American 1973 Posts user info edit post |
eh. we'll see. I didnt see them winning 27 games in a row last year and I thought that would eventually hurt them in the playoff run. but having Lebron on your team really really really helps. I want to see what Beasly(sp?) does. The Pacers actually have a second unit, the bulls will be back, and Detroit is a sleeper this year. Brooklyn will be nice to watch. the east is still weak as hell.
and kobe maybe's selfish but Lebron has no problem giving up the ball. He's not going to LA. That's career suicide imo 10/3/2013 11:08:56 AM |

The top three picks can all be franchise players...Wiggins/Parker/Randle. Then there's the point guards, Smart and Exum. Draft class is fucking loaded next year and being in the top 5 is franchise changing.
I'm pissed about Westbrook being out in the beginning and will be even more pissed off if it effects his game at all. He's one of my favorites to watch and the West is going to be fun to watch next year, and would be even more fun with him and Durant tearing it up.
And although it will be difficult for the Heat to 3peat, I'm not betting against Lebron. If Wade can stay healthy (big IF), I think they take it again. They'll have an easy road to the Finals and should be nice and rested up to go against whatever beat-up team the West provides.

Real question:
Last year, LeBron made a comment saying how he didn't need to lead the league in scoring because the Heat, set up as they were, didn't need him to score so much. What do you think his ceiling would be if one of those players goes down or struggles for an extended stretch?10/3/2013 11:27:36 AM |

I can't really make that assessment because I haven't seen these guys play except all star games.
I know Wiggins has gotten an entirely new level of hype compared to the other players so maybe there is something there worth tanking an entire professional season. But unless they are once in a lifetime players like a Lebron (very, very likely none of them are), it is absolutely ridiculous to put your franchise back years if you strikeout over the ping pong balls not falling your way.
Parker has been getting mixed reviews from what I've read and is a likely candidate for being overhyped coming into this season. I'm not tanking a professional franchise to get Smart/Exum/Randle either. Nice players, but not worthy of that kind of consideration though in my opinion.10/3/2013 11:59:50 AM |

Having a bad year doesn't do that. The Bobcats are an exception...not the rule. Think about fighting for an 8 seed and getting swept in the first round...versus having a shitty year and getting a possibly perennial All-Star in the draft.10/3/2013 12:23:34 PM |

I'll go on the record right now to say that Randle is going to wind up as the best player in next years draft. I believe all the experts that say Wiggins is going to be great, but nothing that I've seen in his highlight tapes makes me think hes this incredible superstar. Randle, on the other hand, does 10/3/2013 12:42:41 PM |

So when you tank and then strikeout, where are all these good players you don't have going to come from?
Do you just snap your fingers and become a playoff team again?
Take the 76ers for example. If they win ~15 games, but only get the 4th pick, see you in 2018 at the earliest with the possibility of being significantly longer.
I feel like you don't feel the full weight of the risk involved in this maneuver. It's a gigantic gamble that if you don't hit can ruin a franchise for many years.
Currently there are more teams tanking than players to bring them out of the hole. Somebody (or bodies) are going to get left out in the cold.

according to ESPN Stats & Information, James actually is a better shooter from the field than Bryant on game-tying or go-ahead field goals in the final 24 seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime of postseason games. He checks in at 41.2 percent (7-for-17), while Bryant is at 25 percent (7-for-28). Jordan rules that stat, though, at 50 percent (9-for-18). 10/17/2013 9:52:43 AM |

the main criticism on lebron is that he wont take that shot or it's a layup. he's probably more comfortable now but not in the past. I didnt use to think this way until I saw the All star game 2 yrs ago (?) when he didnt take the last shot against kobe...he passed it to Blake Griffin ... I cant see it. They partially guaranteed his salary through January and their bench might be the worst in the league. No reason to cut him unless hes misbehaving.
Cant see him in the league for long though. Just doesn't do anything really well.
In the nba you want well rounded stars and guys who are exceptional at something. (Rebounding, shooting, defense, etc).
Having a guy who doesn't really do anything that well is worthless 10/19/2013 6:56:47 AM |

I really wonder how many games the Heat are going to win this year. They're clearly the top team in the east, but they've played 4 seasons worth of games in the last 3 seasons. That's a lot of mileage on a team that really doesn't play that deep a rotation.
I would not be at all surprised if the Heat finish behind the Bulls. They may not even win 60 games this year. Wade should probably play 30 minutes per game or less. They really need to be careful and manage minutes ala Pop and the Spurs until playoff time.
I'm also greatly looking forward to watching the T-Wolves with Rubio and Love together again. The West overall is going to be a ton of fun to watch and uber competitive. 10/19/2013 3:32:06 PM |
