With such an informative title, how did I miss it? Still, glad the local elections were already being discussed, they're too easy to overlook. And with decreasing levels of support for public schools in the state budget, I think discussing how and whether counties can pick up any slack is an important discussion. 10/8/2013 2:19:14 PM

^^When too few people in Wake County vote, we end up with our officials and policies in the national news and on the Colbert Report. 10/8/2013 5:24:22 PM

Because like 97 people vote in the off-year muni elections, and this is the stuff that really affects you where you live.
And even if you vote and lose, if a bond passes 95-5 it will affect how things happen in the future compared to it passing 55-45. 10/8/2013 5:31:30 PM

I hate "the smart way to pay" campaign.
The fact is that the proposals are to borrow money, and this is amongst a climate where we face a coming gigantic wave of municipal defaults all over the nation. The slogan almost sounds like a parody. Its the perfect wording to convince me that there's tomfoolery going on in the books.

Who wrote this crap? A used car salesman? So we should finance infrastructure investment by planning to pay for it later, because there will be more people to pay in the future? ...and if there isn't strong growth? When someone is selling me something with these kinds of arguments, screeching alarm sirens go off in my head.
I hate even more that I had to vote for them. Because my vote is needed to balance the old senile idiots who hate kids and bikers. 10/8/2013 7:26:56 PM

Yeah, I voted no on the bond and I'm neither old nor senile.
If you want to build you can come up with better ways to do it than through borrowing. 10/8/2013 8:22:37 PM

Quote : | "Wake voters approve $810M school construction bond
RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake County voters easily approved Tuesday an $810 million school construction bond that school and county officials say is critical to keeping up with enrollment growth.
The bond will be used to build 11 elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools, do major renovations to six schools and smaller upgrades to dozens of others and purchase land for future schools.
The bond will add 5 cents to the county's property tax rate, meaning an extra $75 for the owner of a $150,000 home." |

Looks like the ECSU student that the Pasquotank County GOP tried to stop from being able to run because they didn't want to recognize students as real town residents (until the State Board of Elections slapped them down on that) won a seat on the city council up there tonight. Good thing too, Elizabeth City doesn't have a whole lot going for it outside of the university, the last thing they need to do is run off students. 10/8/2013 9:39:26 PM

Not surprising, bond issues are usually a pretty easy pass, especially in small, elections like this one. 10/8/2013 9:42:33 PM

I was told the polls close at 7:00 so I didn't try. I'm an idiot.
I don't even care about the results anymore...I just like to fill up my voting record, and this one is going to be missing. 10/8/2013 9:53:02 PM

Voted No on school bond. Why would I want to spend money on an obviously broken system that is nowhere close to being fixed.
