if a child's mother is a citizen the child is a citizen of the US even if they were not born/live on US soil until the age of 18. I think at 18 you have to declare citizenship as an adult.

It's not always that simple, DDK.

I believe at least one of his parents needs to have been a citizen AND needs to have been in the US for 5 years. And that allows the kid to be naturalized.

I think the concept of "naturally born citizen" is still nebulous at best.

I hope the success of his candidacy paves the way for other immigrants to become president. It's a travesty that we have 2 classes of citizenship. It seems unamerican that a kid who grew up here but born elsewhere and is the fullest allowable level of legal citizen, still can't be president.
