LOL@ people blaming Walmart for allowing the spending to continue.

It's not their job to police the morals of these criminal EBT users.

to me, looks like a bunch of thieves, to me.

if the bank mistakenly deposits cash into my account and I spend it, who is responsible for reimbursing the bank? Same situation with EBT.

SNAP is one of a few programs that uses the EBT system; another is TANF, for example.

The problem wasn't in SNAP, but in the local EBT network.

who gets really upset about poor people who receive food from the government taking extra? Oh, we should only be buying steaks for senators and congressmen who aren't doing shit right now, got it.

^

535 members of congress x $174,000 = $93 million

In the 2012 fiscal year, $74.6 billion in food assistance was distributed.

I see your point, but your statement is invalid. But, I still agree with you. Most members of Congress aren't much different than EBT recipients. Both refuse to work and/or are incompetent.

It's not a stockroom full of free food for everyone to share. We are talking about a for profit store that probably won't recoup its losses from those who knew they were taking advantage of them.

Then again, fuck Wal-Mart. It's too bad we can't all steal something from them until Sam Walton's heirs are fighting over their own EBT cards.

^^^the outage was only in Louisiana, not the entire country. And i didn't even mention the wall street fucks who colluded with the government to take 10 times more money than they confessed to in the wake of their latest fuck-up. that's a shitload of steaks and frozen hor d'oeurves.

^^yeah, the article was really clear about walmart making the decision to let them keep buying up all the old food on their shelves. because they're going to end up writing it off their taxes, and they know that these people are gonna spend a shit ton more for Christmas this year since their food is taken care of for the time being.

^oh, but we can. if everyone shoplifted from walmart at the same time, there would be no controlling the pandemonium. anarchy now!

" Walmart has no regrets about allowing a wild shopping spree at two of its Louisiana stores when an electronic glitch lifted the spending caps on the cards of food stamp recipients.

"We know we made the right choice," Walmart spokesman Kory Lundberg told ABCNews.com today.

The chain has no regrets even though Louisiana's Department of Children and Family Services said food stamp recipients should have been limited to $50 each during the emergency and that Walmart will have to pay the difference.

Lundberg declined to comment about how much the company may have lost or why it did not follow the emergency $50 limit. "

The government accidentally paid me too much in my paycheck for 3 months, I noticed it and immediately told finance. I then had 3x $300 deductions from my pay the following months.

In this case, the same should happen. If you knew something was wrong, you'd say something and don't blow the money, because Uncle Sam will get it back. It's called responsibility. If you agree with me, you hold the card holder responsible in this scenario. If you think it's unfair and puts the card holder in risk of not feeding their family, you are saying responsibility is not a deciding factor, something else is.

Shame on the card holders for racking up massive bills. Hold them responsible for their actions legally or by giving them less to recoup what they spent. Why is everyone so affraid to hold someone responsible for their actions? A shopping spree is a clear indicator they exploited a situation, so what else is needed to hold them responsible?

if they just straight up announced that walmart was giving away old food to everyone that had an EBT card, people wouldn't call the recipients irresponsible. Walmart could give shit away and write it off as charity at any time, but this time they're still getting $50 back per transaction, and they will receive a tax benefit for having 'donated' some portion of food that would have otherwise gone to the dumpster. and received a shitload of positive press for way less than a 30 second superbowl spot.

Responsibility went out the window when we introduced a program (welfare) that basically supports people who can't support themselves. Therefore how can oneself hold them financially responsible for anything?

That's like suing a homeless person for a million dollars. You wouldn't see a cent.

Come on you troll, I didn't say all of it would have gone to the dumpster, but it sounds like people basically cleaned out the stores. It's indisputable that an incredible amount of food from grocery stores is thrown away on a very regular basis. Enough for huge homeless camps to live off of what isn't spoiled that they throw out.

I'm sure plenty of what made it home with these people will go to waste as well, but my point remains: some of what was 'sold' and will be written off as a charitable donation is in fact food that would have otherwise gone to the dumpster, and been recorded as a loss in the ledger. I'm not saying it's a major portion, but it does help further defray the actual 'costs' of the giveaway.

I'd think that as an educator, you'd be aware of the toll poverty and poor nutrition can take on the potential of young developing minds. The primary recipients of the majority of FOOD STAMPS (which is a separate program from welfare) are children. I'm not really sure that the current system of distributing aid is the best one, but how can we hold children financially responsible for anything? they deserve decent nutrition and a chance at success in life, even if their progenitors don't have the skills to provide that for them.

some food would have been thrown away, so all food should be free

Kroger (who bought harris teeter) is number two behind walmart in grocery sales. I wouldn't be that surprised if they try to come up with some kind of grand charitable gesture to get a little of that free publicity themselves.

if you want to fuck walmart, call in bomb threats to the most profitable stores just before the black Friday sale starts

you will most likely go to jail, but that might actually cause walmart financial harm
they would survive, but still, you would be a folk hero to those who hate walmart

of course people crowded into walmart suddenly ordered to leave, that might be bad
