s anymore?

"i can't come to the phone, so leave a message with your name and phone number"

Really?! Don't we all know how voicemail works by now?

Based on some of the assholes on here who are like "I never answer my phone, if its important you can text me" I think we still need voicemail instructions

I lay out an ultimatum in my recording. Essentially I say "if you leave me a detailed message, I'll give you a call as soon as I can." Otherwise they'll just say "Hey ncstatetke give me a call when you have a chance -- had a question for ya"

if I have a general idea of what they needed to talk about, then I can do some research on the topic and get my talking points lined up before I call them back

i hate when people don't have a greeting and it's just a robot greeting, and you're not sure if you called the right number

I always request that they leave a number just in case they are calling from an office or something and I can't see their direct line on my caller ID. A little reminder never hurts.

holy shit yes. I called one of our clients the other day and got a voicemail message that was easily 2 fucking minutes long. If my job didn't depend on it, I would have hung up after about 30s. I don't know how his clients can ever call him and maybe that's the plan.

Habit and lack of a substantially better alternative.

Whenever I'm leaving someone a voicemail, and the person calls me back while I'm leaving the voicemail, I'm always like "well ok that's you calling so I'm going to answer it" or something

I hate it when somebody calls me right back after I leave them a well-thought-out message and they say they didn't listen to the message

I leave mine on the robot greeting, but we still have to record our name, so its along the lines of

Recording: [my name]
Robot: Is not available. Please leave a message after the tone. After you are finished recording, you may hang up, or press # for more options.

corny, but better than having to record some stupid "I'm not here, please just send me an email because I never check this stupid thing" message

There's someone on here who does professional voice overs for your voicemail. That would be cool to have.
