Not a bad start, but we'll see how it goes. Personally, would have liked them to drag out the development of the initial acceptance of the partnership a bit longer instead of neatly wrapping it up in the pilot, but who knows, maybe the further development will be interesting.

I saw the first two minutes after leaving FOX on after football and my first thought was, it's 35 years into the future and we're still fighting the war on drugs? But my favorite tv show is the Golden Girls so what do I know...

why would we not be? it's been over 40 years since the "war on drugs" began.

[Edited on November 18, 2013 at 11:20 AM. Reason : (not that the show was about the war on drugs)]

there was a lot of criticism for them not getting to the point in the beginning of fringe so I wonder if that factored in. I mean yeah it was a little rushed but I don't think it matters in the long run. there will be plenty of opportunity for karl urbans hatred of the androids to come up later on with all the mxes around but they've moved past the initial stuff so they can dive into the larger world immediately.

also its not just "the war on drugs", its a war on rapid explosion of new technology. like think about all the tech from fringe that was out there and now think about if they didn't have the observer invasion. all of that stuff would get away from governments and thered be almost no way to stop it. drugs, weapons, whatever.

think of this show as fringe division 35 years later.

That's fair, and given tonight's episode showing Dorian's squeamishness around the destruction of other androids and Kennex's ease at tossing them out of a car into moving traffic, I'm sure there will be room for future conflict.

Agreed... given how the last two episodes went and the trailer to the next, the show relies upon the disruption caused by change to create much of the tension: technological, social, etc.

I think I'll stick with it for another half season at least.

Enjoyed both episodes.

I was just hoping they would need Minka to go undercover as a sex bot.

I liked the second ep way more. especially

is dorian alive? what about the sexbots? what about the mxes? can they be granted free will or obtain it on their own? does that mean they would seek equality with humans (or maybe revolt)? all kinds of good classic scifi stuff here.

The acting in this show is comically bad. I don't usually notice or are bothered by poor acting, but it's actually distracting to me how bad some of these people act. At this point, I really hope it's secretly revealed that half the cast are earlier prototype model robots because that's just about the only explanation that I'd buy for how they are acting.

let's be honest. most sci-fi shows are chock full of bad acting.

I enjoyed the first couple episodes. I especially enjoyed a lot of the lighter interactions between John and Dorian (does anyone else think of JD from Scrubs?) in the second episode. I laughed at him creating an online profile for John, and his body scan comments. Will continue to watch.

I didn't really like Kennex's complete 180 in terms of tone when it came to Dorian. this went from dark and brooding to Buddy Cop in one episode. I'm sure that's best for ratings and show survival but i liked the darker feel of the pilot.

I don't really view it as a 180. John has accepted that Dorian is his partner - maybe even a friend on some level - but I don't think he views Dorian as a person/equal. It might be too subtle of a point, but that's the impression I'm getting, and I think that's what the show is aiming for.

Yeah, I know, but like I said, it doesn't usually bother me. But in this show it just seemed to particularly stick out for me. The female police chief lady in particular just seemed...wooden.

Pilot was OK in my opinion, but I really enjoyed the second episode. I like all the made up future technology they come up with, like the spay-on masks, the restraining goop they shot on that one cop, the DNA blast bomb, even the little toy giraffe. Some pretty clever ideas, and gives them boundless possibilities for future episodes.

Still watching? I am. I can say I keep enjoying the episodes. I've read a few things (minor spoilers?) that say the show will move more towards and arc during the last half of the season.
I also read that the network has shown a lot of the episodes out of order which pissed off the producers (which is why we have seen somewhat inconsistent development of the relationships between the partners.

I am still watching, and enjoying. But i'm starting to lose some interest week to week without a deeper arc. Case of the week shows just don't do too much for me anymore. that and the somewhat low budget and the way they try to get around it. nothing like a 2005 Astro Van dolled up with "future wheels" as the bad guy getaway car.

I'm the same way, I really enjoy it but they need to develop an overall story arc.

^^ I didn't know that but that explains why the potential relationship with Minka Kelly is such a thing despite the fact that we had barely even seen her character.

I, too, enjoy the show. I do like how Kennex and Dorian's relationship is evolving. Even though John had accepted him as partner after the first episode, it feels like he's still working to accept that Dorian is much more than a machine (like the scene about getting Dorian's own place, never even occurred to John)

Plus...it's a Fox show, of course they're just gonna mishmash things around. They get major points with me for sticking with Fringe for 5 seasons, but they did that same episode switcharound shit with Firefly.

Fox hates multi-episode story arcs. It's a fact of life. It's what ruined King of the Hill and countless other shows.

I hope this doesn't follow their standard action of a pseudo-love interest that they draw out for 5 seasons

Does anyone else think that Minka Kelly is the weakest link so far in this show?

eh, to me she hasn't had enough to do to be the weakest link. Honestly, IMO the wacky doctor is the weaker part of the show. Or at least the need for every case to involve his gadget in one way or another.

Yeah I still like it. Apparently all the eps are way out of order so we haven't gotten any of the ones w/ the main plot arc, but those are gonna be coming up soon

I'm guessing the Insyndicate is the main arch since they don't shut up about them and all. Really vague bits. I HATE the name Insyndicate but what can you do.

So far *yawn*. I cant really get into it.

They shouldn't have pussied out and should have just gone all the way and done a TV adaptation of Mass Effect.

that's like saying "Bones" shouldn't have "pussied out" (who the fuck says that?) and just gone all out and done a TV Adaptation of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"

I feel like someone hasn't ever played Mass Effect.
Or has watched Almost Human

Personally, I really enjoyed the last episode. Good amounts of humor and did a fair job cementing Dorian as more of an individual rather than just a machine.

^Seriously. Someone doesn't really know their sci-fi, this show is much closer to Bladerunner and Judge Dredd than it is a space opera video game.

Just watched episode 6. Interesting take on the overdone "organs for lease" theme. The bitcoin reference was odd. The Bladerunner umbrellas are probably unnecessary.

Edit: were I going to draw a video game comparison, it would be to Deus Ex.

i'm not one to usually complain about acting, but aside from dorian, this is about as bad as i can remember. however, the awesome tech keeps me engaged, though i do hope they start to develop a primary arch because there's been zero character development since the first ep (aside from dorian).

Totally hooked on this show, which is bad because every show I've ever really "loved" on fox has been cancelled way too prematurely.
