Sports are the face of most universities. Success in the major sports can have a huge impact on applications and donor revenue which in turn improves a school's ranking which in turn leads to more applications, donor revenue etc. UF is great example of this.

the lady who made the chicken-dinosaur connection was at nc state when i was there. That was a pretty famous research and is in most "jurrassic park" type documentaries/science channel.
