My ~10 y/o lab mix had this happen a few weeks ago one night, next morning it was fine. Happened again last night (with the whole eye being red too), and I massaged it back into place, and she seemed fine a couple hours later.

I think I read of a supplement being of some help in avoiding surgery down the road...though I can't remember what it is? Any other ideas or advice?

She is on 5mg of prednisone a day for her allergies, if that matters.

Our dog has cherry eye periodically. We just massage it back into place. Doesn't seem to bother her in the slightest. The surgery is not a 'sure' thing and they can still have cherry eye after the event. I think a lab has a life expectancy around 12 years, so I'd just stick with popping it back in if I were in your situation, unless it causes obvious discomfort.
