i received a fitbit one for christmas and i'm pretty excited to use it...but i didn't ask for it, and so haven't done much research on the options
before i open it, do any of you have experience with a product that does the same thing but with a GPS built into it? i'd like to have the option (which could be disabled so as to save the battery) so that when i go backpacking or biking, i don't have to carry a separate tracker
some quick googling makes me think that the fitbit is fantastic for its intended use and that if i want something with a GPS, i will probably need to use my current datalogger, phone, or buy a running watch...but i figured it couldn't hurt to ask 12/26/2013 10:02:04 AM |

I bought the One for my wife a few months ago as she wanted something in this area. I did a bit of research at the time and it seemed like most people preferred the One to similar devices (vs Flex, Jawbone Up, etc). The one major issue with it is she has temporarily lost it a couple times so far, including right now, which may or may not be temporary.
If it proves to be temporary, I think she will want the Force, which from what I can tell is at least as good as the one, plus it's a band so the misplacing factor is much less 12/26/2013 2:01:19 PM |

I used to wear a pedometer on my hip (cheap one from walmart). I loved it and the way it made me work towards a goal every day. The bad part was "phantom" steps while driving and trying to clip it on while wearing certain belts (it would seem like it stuck out too far).
I just bought a fitbit force and love, love, love it. I typically never wear anything on my wrist, but I don't mind this. I like that it keeps track of steps, floors, and distance (I hid the calories and active minutes). It seems very accurate, and even keeps track of when I use the elliptical and knows the difference between skipping rope and jogging. 12/26/2013 2:08:52 PM |

about 10 minutes after making this thread, i went ahead and opened it to use
i really like it so far...i'm down to 200lbs and i'd like to get to 180 by april, so i'm hoping it will help keep me on track
i'm waffling between returning the one and going with the force...i like the fact that you don't have to transfer it to a wristband every night, but i THINK wearing the force will annoy me in the same way wearing a watch does (which is a personal preference, obviously)...but at least the time part of the OLED screen is more useful in the force
thanks for the input! 12/26/2013 8:48:03 PM |

i feel the same way about watches, but I don't really mind the force.
I'm glad you like it! It definitely helps me a lot! 12/26/2013 11:28:03 PM |

Ive got the reg fitbit and it always falls out of the little rubber sleeve when I sit down. Im going to be grabbing the force sometime soon. Id love to have the option for a fitbit with GPS built-in to track my hikes/bike rides/etc. 12/27/2013 8:43:52 AM |

If someone could come up with a multi-function "fitbit-sized" device, they'd make gajillions of $$.
My wife and I have a TON of workout tech devices, and it seems that none of them can do everything we need them to do, so we end up wearing multiple devices on each run/workout.
My dream device: GPS - track distance, time, elevation, calories burned based on distance, etc. Essentially, everything my Garmin 4xx series watch can do. ACCURACY is key. Seems like all of my garmin devices all measure differently. Near instant Satellite lock-on. All of my devices take forever Heartrate Monitor enabled, measures calories burned based on heartrate (for indoor sessions, etc. when GPS is useless) MP3/Pandora enabled Bluetooth - lets you connect to bluetooth headphones/earbuds for music, also to download your stats to computer Stopwatch/laps/"virtual partner" Panic Button - A button you press to call 911. Many people carry their phone on runs in case they need help. This would eliminate the need to carry a heavy/bulky phone. Maybe there's an optional cell-service package and you can preprogram multiple numbers (home, spouse, etc.)
If all of this could fit into a watch-style device, I think that would be better for viewing data than a clip-on style. And yes, I know i'm dreaming, but just thinking out loud and bored.

I have the Fitbit One, and I really like it
Definitely no GPS, though
But I love that Fitbit will talk to the MyFitnessPal app to get all of my food data throughout the day 12/31/2013 12:10:58 AM |

^^sounds like a good description of Apple Watch
went from Fitbit Charge 2 to the Apple Watch + GPS and haven't looked back. Wish they had a scale that also measures body fat percentage that would sync - maybe they do and I'm just not aware, like my Fitbit Aria scale did. 10/8/2018 2:37:58 PM |
