Some shady shit in one of the questions near the end when they asked where the big revenue jump was in August 2011. He claimed multiple times that it was from a "multi-year" premium subscription sales push, and when asked further he says that it was for a 3-year subscription.

Those were advertised as lifetime subscriptions. So either he didn't want to put it out there that a large portion of people that paid money to this site aren't going to be doing that anymore, or there are going to be a lot of people that are very pissed off when their supposed lifetime subscription runs out in August of 2014. I assume the former, but I will be among the pissed off if it ends up being the latter.

story time with uncle qntm
when i found out that nael sold tww to CDI America in july '09 there were two guys who managed a few CDI-owned websites who were also "managing" tww for CDI at the time. one of those is the Max in the OP video. when i took over ownership of tww, the two guys from CDI wanted to remain involved with tww from an advisory pov, and i've talked to them maybe 15 times since 2010. when i retired last year, they offered to try to find somebody to buy the site so that the work I had done to that point in evolving tww (primarily through site 3) could continue. i wasn't involved in that video and due to the lack of direct involvement max had here, i'm not surprised some of the responses were not well-informed. as for lifetime premie, it does not expire in August 2014. it expires whenever the site gets turned off.

a few questions if you don't mind:

1) so you're completely out now and have no ownership stake at all?
1a) Did you ever really have ownership? Is CDI your entity or something? I'm missing a link
1b) who are the owners now?

2) are you the "head moderator that works for free" that they talked about that would "likely" stay on?

3) do you find it disingenuous at all that they left out the huge drop in traffic before they posted 2012 stats, or that no one ever posts anymore?

4) how much are they asking? looked like 40k to me, a year ago.... so they aint getting that unless they straight up defraud the new buyer
4a) is it just the domain name, or is it including full CrazyWeb source and your additions?? lots of times the assfuck is in the software running the site.

CDI legally transferred tww to me in 2010. the two guys get a cut of any yearly profit

we never got far along enough in the sale process with anyone to talk about price so i'm not sure what kind of numbers they were talking to people about. presumably any sale would be the 2 domain names, whatever is on the server and the current source code.

as owner of the site, i don't pay myself a salary, so it's true that there are no paid employees. this site has revenue and expenses and at the end of the year what's left over gets paid out. it's not unusual for owners of small businesses for there to be an imbalance between the effort they put in and their effective pay. so the time and effort that i've put into tww over the years I don't look at in terms of how much money I've earned from it. I did it because 1) tww desperately needed somebody to look after it and i had the opportunity 2) the tww community has been good for me and I was happy to give back 3) i learned a lot about different technologies while running the site and developing site 3, things I wouldn't have learned in my day to day job and that knowledge arguably helped me in getting my current job (which ironically was one of the reasons i ended up retiring from tww).

yeah i would say there's not really any way to avoid that without removing either feature from the site. of course, and i hope it goes without saying that if there's any reason i would think bob would have a conflict of interest or would abuse his position, i would not be inclined to pursue a sale with bob.
