Possibly old but just came across my Facebook feed.

I honestly only watched until he got out of the car. At that point I was ok with the officers beating him. This kid drove through a DUI checkpoint that is to take dangerous people off the street and he's preaching about his rights when all he had to do is roll his window down?

the kids absolutely within his rights to do this. If the cop had suspected him of being intoxicated, it might have been a different story.
that being said, i think the people that do this to "exercise their rights..." well that is their prerogative, but i feel like you need to pick your battles. I would rather just roll down the window, and give them my ID, just because I don't feel like dealin with the hassle. Less time dealing with cops, the better. To each their own, i suppose.
And I don't think he is trying to become internet famous- there are tons of videos like this all over the internet, dealing with border patrol stops, check points, etc... I think it is important to know your rights, but also important to use common sense and not over react at everything- Officer TJ Hillbilly isn't going to take away your freedom and throw you in Guantanamo, so just show your id and gets ta movin. I guarantee he isn't going to immediately stop asking people to roll down their window and stop asking for ID's just because of this little social experiment.

Problem is this little douchebag has no idea the dangers these officers put themselves into every night to protect his so called freedoms. Want to watch some shit thats really eye opening? Search officer deaths on youtube and watch the numerous times a cop is murdered at just a random traffic stop. Cops have an edge about them because their life can be taken from them on every single stop they make. This is a DUI stop. I've always been asked for my ID at a DUI stop. Is it really that hard to do? Or do you just want to make a scene because you're a punk douchebag who cares about your constitutional rights? Give me a damn break. This kid was acting suspicious. Of course the cops are going to want to search his car. If he just shows his ID, he is gone in about 5 seconds. Good Lord the idiocy. 1/7/2014 1:38:34 PM |

Really? You almost couldn't be more full of crap. It's never been safer to be a LEO. There are tons of jobs that are more dangerous than cop. You are now more likely to be killed just by living in some cities than you are if you are a cop, in fact once you eliminate traffic deaths police officer is a remarkably safe job in terms of both fatalities and just plain physical violence against.
And talking about he freedoms these cops protect... how exactly do they do that. Pretty much every civil liberties infraction that occurs in this country are because of law enforcement not enforcing the law. Police aren't the military, they don't protect our freedoms.1/7/2014 1:59:40 PM |

^^My point is they are trying to get people that are out there driving drunk. They are trying to make YOUR drive safer. And all you want to do is act like a douchebag because you're "standing up for your rights."? All you have to do is take 5 seconds and show them your ID.
^List me these tons of jobs please.

And at which point at this DUI checkpoint was this kid being accused of drinking and driving, yet he was detained and searched for simply knowing the law. 1/7/2014 2:02:53 PM |

No, no they really aren't. If they wanted to stop DUIs there are much better ways to catch drunk drivers than stopping every single person in what is not actually a targeted stop. "DUI checkpoints" are designed to do a lot of things well, preventing DUIs is not one of the things they are good at accomplishing. 1/7/2014 2:03:01 PM |

The bus loads of drunks that are brought into the intake/processing center I worked at every weekend from DUI Checkpoints would prove contrary to this point. But I'm sure you know all about it1/7/2014 2:10:32 PM |

Golly, you worked in or in relation to law enforcement, what a shocker.
Look, I'm not saying they don't catch people for DUIs, but generally speaking the ratio of DUIs issued vs. shit like registration tickets, seatbelt tickets, etc. is pretty fucking poor. When you start looking at ones that are set up in places and on days when there is no reason to expect a high amount of DUIs it's even worse.
A lot of checkpoints are not set up to catch what they claim to be set up for. Look at all the inland border checkpoints and DUI stops set up nowhere near a bar. That's not for safety those are money generators and anybody not blinded by their participation in the system knows that and can acknowledge it. 1/7/2014 2:15:30 PM |

I think I've seen this video before. What pissed me off the most about it was how the cop gestures to make the dog jump on the car as if it had smelled drugs. That shit probably happens all over the country. 1/7/2014 8:10:08 PM |

Yeah, this video is at least a year or two old. Sadly, the supreme court has ruled that dogs are accurate enough to count as probable cause despite massive evidence to the contrary.
http://reason.com/archives/2013/01/31/this-dog-can-send-you-to-jail/singlepage
Even without handlers present to cause false alerts dogs aren't particularly accurate. Don't misunderstand, they're great at finding stuff when it's there, but they have a huge percentage of false alerts because of the way they're conditioned. 1/7/2014 9:16:34 PM |

Last year the US had 111 police deaths; the least number of police deaths since 1959. Car crashes were the primary cause of those deaths. Firearm fatalaties were second. 111 out of 700,000+ as far as I can tell. It's a terrible thing, but let's not blow it out of proportion.

Did you watch the video? The officer never asked him for his ID nor did he ever refuse to give it to him.
I'm surprised how little support there is for the victim here. That cop was acting like an angry ape as he violated the civil liberties this country was supposedly founded on. He's a hothead who clearly can't handle his temper or work within the confines of the law. Those of you who are sticking up for him should feel ashamed.
