Thats actually 440 based on the exit sign, as thats the exit for Western.

It is 440 and US-1. That is the section where they are the same for a while.

US-1 ends at I-40. It becomes 440 as soon as you go under the bridge (if you're heading north)

In fairness, the section from there to capital boulevard is the through-road for US-1, but it's never referred to as such.

No there are signs on 440 that clearly say 440 on one and right beside it there is a US1 sign

Yeah, US routes don't just end when they follow other roads. It's both US-1 and I-440.

US-I, travelling south-north, follows 64> The Beltline/I-440> Capital/401 (then 401 splits off at Louisburg Rd)> 158 > then back onto 401 >etc...

Why is most of this thread discussing people's inability to comprehend that US-1 splits and the truck route is 440 between Capital and 40 and the passenger route is what most of us think of as US-1/Capital that goes through downtown and then they meet up again and not about the fact that there was an awesome guy handing out cups of Old Crow?

^^ Ill settle this debate, I work for NCDOT. US 1 follows I-440 from I-40 to Capital Blvd, there is no truck/car split.

US-1 may follow it, but it's not the road name there.

Would you ever say an accident happened at US-1 and Six Forks? Nope. It's 440 at six forks.

Same way you'd never say you were on US-64 at Gorman Street. US-64 may run concurrent with I-40 along the southern side of Raleigh, but it's not the designated road name.
