yes, it is possible that it either landed or crashed onto land, terrorism or not. but, i would say the chances are extremely small. still possible.

however, i keep hearing people (who believe it crashed in the sea) saying something to the effect of "how hard could it be to locate a massive plane in the ocean" etc. that is invalid. as a general rule, most people on the planet cannot visualize areas and volumes. if it is under the ocean, it could take years to find it, and people are already complaining after 10 days of searching.

as the graphic in the link above shows, it took 2 years to find the black boxes from the air france crash, and this is suspected to be deeper.

They came out today and "confirmed" that the pings they heard were not from the blackbox but did not confirm where they were from. This smells more and more like a conspiracy considering they originally stated the sounds could only have been produced by a black box.

Sounds plausible and most probably that's what happened.

Is there anyway for a crew member to contact anybody on the ground from outside the cockpit? If so, did the co-pilot alert ground crew that the pilot had locked him out?

^ The problem with a lack of evidence is that you can completely make up a narrative and then say "You can't prove I'm wrong because there's no evidence to contradict my claims!" They have no black box, no in-cabin recordings, no (significant) radio transmissions, no plane, and no bodies to serve as proof that their theory is correct. They saw an opportunity to exploit their credentials to make a buck off a story with worldwide interest and they took it.

I don't think the profiteering would bother me as much if it weren't for the HuffPo piece. The writing is in a style as to make the reader think they are reading new facts regarding the case, but they sprinkle in just enough phrases like "The authors say..." to walk a thin line between reporting this as the authors' theory versus reporting this as fact.
