I'd really prefer you not acknowledge me at all, for any reason.

When my wife and I were house hunting we found what looked like our dream house in the North Eastern corner of Cary. We lined up several houses to view on this beautiful Saturday morning, but this one was first on our list.
As we drove into the neighborhood and were about 2 houses from our destination this squirrel just bolted out in front of my car. I tried to swerve, but it ran directly under my tire. I hit the brakes and stopped right in front of the for sale sign, looked back to see if it got away last second, but I could see it.
It wasn't dead, I had only run over half of it, the back half. The front two legs of the squirrel and its head were moving about in a panicked frantic way, trying to crawl away, not to safety, but just away from the pain.
My wife screamed. I put the car in reverse and floored it, making sure to get both driver's side tires over it. I felt both thumps and immediately felt a mix of relief and remorse.
I pulled back enough to see the spot that was nothing more than matted grey hair and blood, shifted into first and got it with two tires again, just in case.
We just kept driving. We never even put eyes on the house. And like I said, it was a beautiful sunny day, people were out mowing lawns, planting flowers, playing in the yard. We just crossed the whole neighborhood off our list.

i never attempt evasive maneuvers when animals appear, with the exception of deer. I'll try to stop or slow down some if I can, but I'm not swerving for a furry speed bump! Especially yesterday, when it had been raining off and on.

my victim ran into the street when I was maybe 5 car lengths away, max... i just kept going, didn't even bother trying to avoid it. instead of darting off like they normally do, it just sat there and took the hit. DOUBLE THUMP!
