didn't conan say at one time that letterman was the whole reason he wanted to be a late night host or something? I guess it'd be cool if he took over the job. they both have something in common from getting dicked over by leno

you should quit watching so much tv and:

1) collect posters of lettuce, tomatoes

2) make playlists for "Girls"

ferguson has dibs and already works for dave, but i think he likes the fact that he can do whatever the hell he pleases at 12:35. i could be wrong.

amy sedaris would be an incredible choice.

If it was someone different and interesting like Louis CK or Larry David I'd probably start watching late night TV for the first time in many years.

But it will prob be some boring shithead like Conan or Ellen

Dual hosts:

Actually while that would be awesome, I'm pretty sure Lorne Michaels owns their souls.

They are going for Seinfeld, but Louis CK has an outside shot, also Chris Rock may want in on it

I know the format and length is entirely different, but Chelsea Handler is great. She may be too risqué for network television and not good for a longer format show.

The problem with the joke suggestions in this thread is that some of the serious suggestions are so bad that the joke ones don't even look so silly next to them

while i would personally love ferguson to take over the late show, his show would translate to 11:30 even worse than the conan to the tonight show did.

old fogies would hate him. and i don't think you could convince the network to have a robot skeleton co-host of the late show.

^^i think the same thing. Ferguson is good at his slot, I don't see him really sliding up to 1130. Same with Conan.

Conan replacing Letterman makes infinitely more sense than him replacing Leno

in a perfect, contract-free world, he would have been the natural progression

I ran across an article yesterday that suggested Ellen DeGeneres...yes, seriously. I dont have an issue with her at all, I just think she would be terrible at late night.

I think it should be CraigyFergs to turn down, but I would hate to see him be limited in what he can do on the show (ie, an episode done completely with puppets, touring Scotland, etc). That being said, the Late Show does not have the history of The Tonight Show (it didnt exist before Dave), so maybe the network wont be so strict on the format (robot and horse sidekicks), plus competition is now Fallon and Kimmel (not Jay Leno and Nightline)...not sure you can worry about the old fogies and stay competitive in the ratings.

Any thoughts on when we'll reach the point, demographically speaking, where we no longer make late night host decisions based on old people? This has always confused me. The people I know in my parents' generation are all asleep by 11. The people I know in my generation who watch late night TV watching something else until Conan or Ferguson comes on.

Aisha Tyler would be a TERRIBLE late night host. her podcasts are interesting because of the subjects, but she is a horrible, way too personal and chummy interviewer for late night.

I will miss Colbert the character but am very excited for Stephen Colbert.

John Oliver would have been a shoe in for Colbert's spot, but his Last Week Tonight on HBO starts up this month

#CancelColbert kinda came true!

^^ Fallon puts on a hell of a show. He's not that funny in a stand-up comedian guy kinda way, but the show as a whole is awesome.

i never watch the colbert report, and i don't really know what he's like outside of that or when he was on the daily show. did he do stand up when he was younger? from what i've seen i think he'll do a good job as an interviewer. it'll be interesting to see how he handles having bits and all that. i think he'll pull solid musical talent too.

Colbert's background is improv and sketch comedy. He did some SNL stuff and worked on the short-lived Dana Carvey show, but the key things are his late '90s Comedy Central series.

If you haven't seen all 30 episodes of Strangers with Candy and all 12 episodes of Exit 57, go watch them now.

I don't know how I feel about this. The Colbert Report is my favorite late night show. The satirical aspect is what makes him not come off preachy like Stewart. I'm sure he'll be successful at this though.
